"My lonely place is everywhere
you aren't." —Perry Poetry

THE first time Adaline met Peter Parker was for Harry's sixth birthday, the party being held at their penthouse where he invited some kids from his class. The young girl gleefully tried to be friendly as it wasn't often to have visitors, mostly businessmen to discuss important matters with her father. At that moment, Harry dragged her to be beside him when blowing the candles, closing his eyes while thinking of a wish. Once he was done with the candles, their mother snapped a picture of them with arms around the shoulders and grinning happily.

Not a second later, the cake was being sliced and passed around that she noticed one in particular without a plate. Seeing that he shyly stood beside a pillar unsure what to do, she grabbed a plate with the dessert and walked towards him. At first, he was unsure what to say as the girl extended her arm to hand it to him, even trying to avoid looking at her directly. She didn't recognize him but instead showed a small smile before asking, "Hi, want some chocolate cake?"

"Yeah... I love chocolate." The boy muttered softly, taking the plate as Adeline started eating hers though stood beside him. The atmosphere was lively around them, yet with the boy, it was steady and calming. He was slightly taller but scrawny looking, wearing glasses that framed his facial features somewhat nicely. He was different, that's for certain, he observed before acting upon himself and fidgeting with his glasses out of habit.

"I'm Adeline," She greeted properly, her left hand out to him as she awaited his name in return. His eyes flickered down for a moment, wondering if he should, considering the obvious distinction between them. She was dressed nicely in a teal dress and flats while he had worn-out jeans and a sweater, feeling out of place with her.

"...Peter." He introduced himself, returning the gesture with a loose grip before letting go quickly upon realizing what he was doing. Adeline nodded as she hoped to remember his name, however, her contagious mood caused him to feel a bit relaxed. The boy even gathered enough courage to look directly into her eyes, both seeing each other for the first time.

"You have pretty blue eyes," She uttered without a second thought, causing Peter to blush while struggling to reply to the compliment. The more she glanced at them, it reminded her of a clear sky on a bright sunny morning. However, the young Osborn simply laughed as she told him, "I like it. Wish I had mine like my dad."

"Addy! Come on! Bernard is getting my gift!" Harry shouted to her, watching their butler going to the kitchen to retrieve it. Immediately, there were loud noises as she suddenly felt a tug in her arm and shyly waved goodbye at Peter.

"I was going!" She remarked playfully at her brother but watched him happily open the gift with excitement. The gift was a new toy remote car with a shiny red bow wrapped around it, wanting to play with it already. A bright light flashed at the Osborn siblings, filled with happy memories... only it didn't last long. It was also the last time their mother was still healthy and alive.

No one knew how it happened, everything changed so fast in a blink of an eye within the following months. Succumbed into a strange illness that left her bedridden for the remainder of her hours, their father did everything he could to engineer an experimental drug to potentially cure her. In the end, Emily Osborn died before Adeline's fifth birthday, only seventeen days to be exact. That's when Norman started blaming them and saying why did his daughter have to look like her. Harry would try to defend her but only to be told he was a disappointment.

The siblings didn't have time to mourn after that, instead of being placed in boarding school in London for the next nine years. She didn't even get to say goodbye to the friends she began to have. At first, questioned why he would just neglect them without knowing the reason. Eventually, she accepted it was for their own good, he was a talented businessman after all. A man obsessed with work who didn't have time to take care of his children, at least, she had Harry. Adeline vowed to work hard on getting her father's approval as proven to inherit his intelligence by excelling in some subjects.

As time went on, she continued to stay at Warminster Prep while Harry struggled to catch up and later failed the following semesters. He was pulled out to another and for the first time, the siblings were pulled apart. Sure Adeline had friends but it wasn't the same, feeling miserable and awful that their father was being hard on him. However, there was one thing that did benefit her— she changed. No longer was she the same little girl who naively believed in fairytales, rather a young woman that had ambitions for herself in the future. To carry the family legacy as Osborn's successor following Harry.

Now at the young age of seventeen, she hasn't heard a word from either of them, only from the newspaper or radio sometimes. She missed them dearly and the last phone call was about three weeks ago from Norman before the end of the Spring semester. Just then, Adeline received an invitation to Harry's graduation from the post... a small smile appeared on her lips of seeing her brother again. The thought of returning home brought a heartwarming sensation as she excitedly imagined how much has changed. Running back to her dorm room to pack, ignoring the stares she received on the way there.

She wondered if they still have the penthouse? Are her friends still there? Or is New York beautiful as she remembers? Will anyone recognize her? Straight away, she gathered her belongings for the incoming summer vacation, hoping to spend time together. Of course, she wasn't totally forgotten, receiving birthday gifts and surprises now and then. Now that she thought about it, she needed a gift... definitely going shopping for something special. Her phone buzzed at a message, details on the party, and guest list. One, in particular, struck curiosity as she recalled the name.

And it was Peter Parker.
