"Hi! Could I please get an animal style cheeseburger with chopped chili's and animal style fries with chopped chili's, and a water please" Kade spoke to the lady who was behind the register.
"Alright will that be all?" she asked politely.
Kade looked back at me and I shrugged and he rolled his eyes before turning back around towards her, "She'll have the same thing please" he told.
She nodded, "Alright, that will be $15.80 please" she said and Kade swiped his card and then we were sitting down waiting for our food.
"Thank you" I said and he nodded.
"Course bella" he said making me shiver slightly.
After that we didn't speak again till we got our food and sat down at a booth in the back.
"So..." I said awkwardly, unsure of what to say in this moment.
So many things need to be said, that should be spoken about. He already apologized for what he said before I left, he doesn't want to talk about Ruby or anything related to her.
"So um, where have you been all these years?" Kade asks smoothly, trying to make it more comfortable.
"London" I answer shortly.
Talking to my family about my past was hard. But with Kade it's a little harder, because when I was over there with my ex I was really trying to forget about Kade and my feelings for him. All the drugs and parties were all distractions, but I also loved it. I loved the feeling of being free from the judgement from my parents, the pressure to be like my brother, and the feeling of not being noticed by Kade.
"London?," he says with shock and wonder. I nod my head in response as I chew some of my food, "That's very far from here, what prompted that location?" he asks before he takes a bite of his own food.
My throat suddenly becomes thicker with the mere question, that is normal but comes with memories that haunt me.
"Um, it's a long story" I tell, hoping he gets the hint of me not wanting to speak about this.
"We've got time" he says casually, making the tension in my body become thicker and tighter. Almost making me want to throw up and pass out, but I push through the affects and flasha fake smile.
"Another time," I say with finality in my tone, he doesn't ask or pry about the subject anymore, instead he just nods with acceptance. "So um, when did you and Wes make it to the NBA?" I ask curiously.
"Right out of college for me, but it took about another year before Wesley joined the team" he tells me, surprise sparks in me.
"Why another year?"
The man clears his throat as if he is uncomfortable, "He um, was in a dark place after college, it was really bad" he explains and my heart aches at the thought of what my brother went through during that span of one year.
"Oh" is all I can say in this moment. Thoughts of what happened or was happening to him during that year.
"Don't worry, he is in a better place now, and he became better as soon as he joined the team" he tells me, making me feel somewhat better, relived, but still not completely at ease about what I just learned.
