Dukes POV
I don't know why I can't tell her I love her. I just don't want to ruin the friendship we have had for years. And I don't know if I am ready to give up my freedom for a girl yet. But this just isn't any girl this is my Skye. I always tell myself next time I see her I will tell her the truth but this time is for real. This was my last thought before getting the message as I got off the plane. Skye was hurt after a car hit her, and she is in the hospital, and the worst part is she hasn't woken up yet.
Skye's mom picks me up from the airport tear soaked and not looking good. But then again who could look fine when something like this happens. The past 24 hours have been a blur getting home,finding out what happened, coming back out here,and now we are pulling into the hospital.
"Tell Cheral how happy I am you are here, Skye needs you," Skye's mom tells me referring to my mom.
"You know she thinks of Skye like a daughter, and on the weekend she is coming out."
"Good I miss her, now you can go in and see Skye but remember she is not in a good state."
"Alright, thank you Mrs.Evans." I open her door and it breaks my heart when I see her. At first I don't say anything and just kiss her cheek pulling up a chair.She looks so sad and calm but at the same time she looks so peaceful.
"Skye I know you can't hear me but, I love you, and not just as a best friend, I love you so much,I love the way you crinkle your nose when you are concentrating. I love when you sing and when you compliment my cooking. I love every single thing about you. I love your flaws.I love you, please don't leave me," I plead to her and start crying.I then hear her monitor start beeping really loud and the nurses all run in.
"Sir you need to leave her heart rate just jumped, and sometimes when this happens it goes flat shortly after." As I am rushed out of the room I read a constant buzzing, and I know her line went flat.
Skye's POV:
"I love you" I drift towards the light,"please don't leave me." I turn around and see all my favorite memories. Me and my dad. Me and mom. Me and Caden and Carter. Me and Duke. I turn around, I can't give up yet.
Carter POV:
It's been three days and I haven't heard anything about Skye,except for the crazy rumor that she died, which I hope is just a rumor. I pace back and forth in my room while Ryan plays video games.
"Man just go see her,you are going to assume the worst until you do," Ryan tells me pausing the game. I know he is right, so instead of answering I just grab my keys and walk out. I drive to the hospital nervously, when I walk in I hear laughter and am surprised to see what I do. Duke is pushing Skye around in a wheelchair racing and causing the nurses to yell. They stop when they see me.
Skye POV
"Carter,what are you doing here?" I ask pausing my game with Duke.
"I was worried I felt like the accident was my fault!" He burst out unexpectedly. I look over to Duke and he shrugs his shoulders.
I look back to Duke,"Can Carter and I have a moment please?" He nods and let's go handing my chair to Carter who starts pushing me towards the cafeteria. "So you were really worried."
"Yeah I was, I'm really sorry I was such a jerk to you I just I don't know I don't want my friends to know about my sensitive side." He whisperes to me. And I remember what he did.
"You were indeed a jerk."
"How can I make it up to you?"
"Anything I want?"
"Anything you want."
"I want you to treat me with respect on and off the field and I want you to be yourself around me, even if your friends are there, also with that if they are your true friends they won't care if you are sensitive." I demand making him look at me.
"Do I have to?"
"No but you should also know I died, because of you, they brought me back but I did die." I say looking straight into his face. I see hurt and I see regret.
"I promise I will do what you say," he says kissing my forehead not in a romantic way but I knew this was the start of s good friendship.
