Just as I finish warming up with Carter, they call for captions. It's 7:00 game time.I look over into Carters' eyes and he gives me a reassuring nod as we make our way over. The other team smirks the all to familiar, I think I am better than you, smirk. I know they are wrong. I know I can beat them. When the refs ask to shake hands I offer mine to the other team but they decline, ignoring me going to Carter. I shake my head and let out a slight giggle.
"Since your away, call it in the air." The ref motions towards Carter and I. I look at Carter to signify I got it. As the coin flips up I calmly say tails. I will never not chose tails. The ref shows us the tails.
"We would like to reiceve the ball," Carter stats before we head back to our benches. Coach gathers us for one last huddle but I am already in the game. Before I know it I am passing the ball to Carter deep into the end zone and we are scoring for the second time just before it buzzzes for half time. I pump my fist in the air and run over to Carter. I jump on his back and ruffle his perfect brown hair.
"Nice catch bud," I smile as he carries me in running.
"Nice throw Evans," he tosses me off and we get water. This team is good, they have a tough defense, but thier offense can use some work. I would love to see the look on those guys' faces now that we are beating them 14-0. Coach gathers us and I get over my mini celebration. This is not over yet.
We went out hard the second half and came out with a win of 35-3. As the final buzzer rings I am filled with joy. We won. I helped the team to win and I am a girl. A girl in California who didn't know if ai could do it. I did it. I realize this and run over to the boys.
"Hell yeah boys!" I pump my fist in the air. As I am celebrating I feel Carter come up behind me and pick me up.
"You did good Evans," he whispers in me ear and sets me down. I turn around and stare into his eyes. I watch him look down at my lips and we we go silent for a minute.
I snap out of it and smirk looking up at him, "You could have done better." I giggle as I watch his reaction.
"Probably but I did pretty good, dang the winner is sassy," he smiles starting to tickle me. I scream because I am very ticklish, I try to run away but run straight into something, someone; Duke. My smile falters for a second but I quickly perk up.
"Duke! What are you doing here? Your here so often you mine as well move here," I joke around giving him a hug. As I do, out of the corner of my eye I see Carter walk away like something is wrong. I will just ask him about it later.
"I wasn't going to miss your first game, and surprise, my mom is letting me finish here especially since I want to go to college out here." I take in his words slowly.
"Wow that's big Duke, exciting," I try to be happy, I just feel Luke something has changed. Maybe it is because I have gotten closer to Carter.
