Natasha's P.O.V

"Is he gonna be alright?" I asked Steve as we watched the surgeons work on an unconscious Nick Fury.

"don't know," Steve replied, his massive arms nervously crossed.

"Tell me about the attackers?" I asked instead, now looking away from Fury and looking Steve dead in the eye.

"They were heavily disguised, so I got in as much as I could. They both had long black pants and boots, black shirts and black masks that covered everything except their hair and eyes. One of them had a metal arm and long, greasy, black hair but the other had no sleeves so his arms were visible, they were quite muscular but he was rather small, his arms were covered in scars. I very quickly changed the mindset that the second guy was small though. He punched me and I fell to the ground winded." I blinked at him once he had finished.

"THE captain America was knocked down?" I said, genuinely surprised.

He only nodded and looked back at Fury shamefully.

"hey, don't be upset. It was bound to happen eventually" I chuckled "we're gonna get these guys so don't stress." I smiled up at him reassuringly and he just simply nodded before he said he had to go.

I waved goodbye and he walked out of the hospital.

"he's in V-tach!" one of the nurses called and I watched in horror as his heart monitor was beeping like mad and the numbers were dropping. Fast.

"bp's dropping!"

"defibrillator! I want you to charge him at a one hundred." The doctor ordered his nurses.

"don't leave me, Nick," I whispered to the glass.

"Stand back" the doctor said to the nurses as he prepared the heart booster. "Three, two, one... clear!" he thumped the pads onto Nick's chest and his body gave a jerk upward.

"pulse?" the doctor asked

"no pulse" one of the nurses replied.

"okay, one-two hundred please." He clicked a couple buttons then said "one, two, three. Clear!" again he pressed them onto Fury's chest. The numbers on the heart monitor shot down to zero and the lines went flat.

The everyone started running around, the doctor shoved a needle into Nick's arm and they all stared at a nurse who checked his chest with her stethoscope.

"pulse?" the doctor asked tentatively.

"negative" the nurse replied and immediately everyone's shoulders slumped. It then dawned on me that they had done everything they could but Nick Fury was gone. I felt tears roll down my cheeks and my breath got stuck in my throat causing me to cough. Before anything else happened I ran out of the hospital.

I cant believe that just happened.

My mind was reeling with memories;

When Fury's heart monitors flatline, when I was trained as a widow in the red room, when I woke up and was told my brother had failed training and was now dead.

This loss is too much. What do I do now? I can't keep running forever, my legs are getting heavy.

so I decided to only run a little further to Avengers tower.

I casually walk into the foyer and into the elevator, when the elevator doors open I find Tony sitting at a bar reading an important looking piece of paper, judging by the expression on his face.

"hey" I simply said while sitting down opposite him.

He looked up at me startled "oh, sorry, I didn't hear you come in."

"that's fine, I won't be here long. I just came to tell you something.." I faded off as the words failed to form and escape my mouth because I knew that as soon as I said them they were true.

Tony looked at me, clearly expecting something. "yeah...?" he encouraged

I took a deep breath and look him dead in the eye as I said "Fury's dead"

The shock on Tony's face was something else. "Wait, you're being serious?"

I felt tears spring up in my eyes. "oh, Nat. I'm so sorry. Can I get you something? Coffee? Tea? Vodka?"

I shook my head, gently declining his response and smiling lightly.

We stood in peaceful silence for a moment.

BEEP BEEP

"sir, it appears that outside the united Nations building is under attack." Jarvis stated from the ceiling.

"You had an alarm installed?" I asked, finding it slightly amusing.

"yep, are you coming or not?" he replied as he began to suit up and warm up his repulsors.

I nodded vigorously as i figures that it could be a good way to get my mind off things and I called Steve and messaged Clint and Bruce.

hello everyone!!

i hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while but I watched Spiderman: No Way Home and it kinda broke me 😭so I just basically ran out of motivation to do anything like I felt numb for about a week.🤫

anyway here is a little not for you all about the story:

Okay so from here on out it's completely my own story and Fury really is dead in my version because I'm lazy and don't know how he will actually fit into the story so... yup.

But I hope ya'll are enjoying this story so far and I'm sorry if it's a little boring but it will get better, I promise.

xxoo
