I lie in bed with the duvet wrapped around my trembling body. The small lamp glowed on the bedside table providing light for the room. Our backs touched as we lie together facing opposite ends. My head rested on the pillow glancing towards the slightly open oak door at the entrance of the room. Insomnia filled me. My eyes felt heavy but my brain didn't let me sleep. My mind was too active, too alive. Thoughts darted through my mind like small arrows piercing the edges of my brain. Scenarios chipping at my brain like woodpeckers on the bark of trees. I turned over to see Kendall who was now lying on his back. He slept silently. His lips simply parted; his cheeks slightly pink and his hair creased. I rest my head on his beating chest like his chest that rose and fell, his heart beat simultaneously. I put my arm over Kendall's waist and pulled myself closer to his warm body. I ran my hands down Kendall's torso and traced little circles. Kendall's musty but sweet cologne on his body soothed me. I closed my eyes, breathing in Kendall's cologne when Kendall's heart thumped uncontrolable against my ear- beating at a faster pace than before.
His body shook uncontrollably; his legs trapped in sheets kicked violently at the barrier, his tender arms were pricked with goosebumps. Sweat trickled down his face and through his silkly golden hair with clashes of dark brown. He breathing increased and sweat dripped quicker down his body. "Kendall," I whispered as his eyes twitched and he began to mumble jibberish. "Wake up!" I sat up in bed, sitting closely near Kendall who was grasping the sheets. He scratched his hands down the material. I stroked his arm as I called his name again and again.
Before I could call his name a tenth time, a hand reached out and clasped my neck tightly. A sweaty hand wrapped around my neck like a snake killing his next meal. "Kendall," I choked, touching the cold hand that had hold of me. "Let go, Kendall!" My eyes watering as the clasp on my neck tightened; my pinkish skin had been replaced with a porcelain white. The pressure on my throat was taut and dry but I summoned one last ounce of strength and screamed. Kendall's sharp eyes shot open and sat up straight, not loosening his grip. He glanced around the room in panic before his eyes travelled up his arm. "Jessica," Kendall pulled his hand, gripped it tight with his other and looked sadly upwards to me. "I'm so sorry." Kendall swung his feet over the bed and shamefully slumped over. I replaced where his hand was with my own and rubbed the crimson line that had formed across my neck. "Did you have a nightmare?" He placed his head in his hands, Kendall sobbed. His body shook more then before his nightmare. To put him at ease, I put my hand on his back, massaging it and rubbing over his scorpio tattoo that he loved so dearly. I traced up and down his back until I found a scar running from the top of his spine to the bottom, weather by age and blacken by the element. It's broad size and many cross ridges betrays the truth that what a deep and ghastly wound it had been, and the lack of care it was given. "What is th-"
"There are some things you don't know about me."
