Rope burns along my hands. Cuts and gashes screaming at my body. My vision blurs every step I take. Running away was not an easy feat. My feet clung desperately to the small crevices in the mountains, as my fingers shakily tried to find their hold on the slippery surface of the mossy rocks. "Almost there... " I huffed as my hand grazed the top of the mountain. I pulled myself over and collapsed on the grassy floor, my chest heaving up and down from the excessive strain.
When my vision cleared, the innocent blue sky smiled down at me and healed me with its golden rays. Tears scurried down my cheeks as I gulped down water as if I hadn't had nourishment in days. When I glanced to my right, the scenery that greeted me would never be forgotten. A tropical paradise, where multicolored flowers bloom, where the water runs clear as glass. I had discovered something new, something I had never seen before.
Thankfully, the journey down the mountain was a lot less severe, and in no time, I was face to face with the beautiful town. The second I stepped into the town, several people swept me into the center and chatted around me as if we had been acquainted for many years. This appalled me. "Top of the morning to you," a lady with auburn locks of hair greeted. "To you as well," I said anxiously, a bit confused by the upbeat atmosphere.
When I finally got away from the commotion, or so I thought, I crashed into a girl surrounded by a score of children. "And now you know the family Madrig-" she started before landing on the floor with an unflattering thump. "Are you alright? I'm so sorry I should be more careful, " I fretted as I helped her up. When our eyes met, she smiled at me kindly. "Nah, I'm doing fine. Never better!"
She fixed the green frames surrounding her eyes as she looked me up and down. The remaining blood from my wounds caught her attention. "Woah, what happened to YOU? Come on, let's get you to Casita. My mom can heal you, "
"She can do what?" I stammered, raising my eyebrows doubtfully at the girl, who made her mother sound like some kind of video game character.
"You don't know the Madrigals?" She asked, astounded. "But everyone knows the family Madrigal! Unless... " Her chocolate colored eyes widened as she took in my combat boots , safari trousers and undeniable park ranger cosplay. "You... found your way into Encanto??" She gasped and covered her hands with her mouth. "Even more of a reason you should visit the Casita! Come on, I'll show you the way!" I found myself being dragged after her bounding steps, not knowing what a Casita was, and what it would do to me.
.end of prologue.
