"How do you feel about competing for nationals?" Heeseung questioned as he and Eun byul ate their lunch."So you're agreeing?" he asked, looking at her.

Eun byul nodded her head, "But if things get bad, I'm pulling out right away. I haven't competed in a real competition in two years so I'm still unsure how I'm going to feel, you know? I became an emotional wreck after you-know-who... Anyways, I'm just being cautious."

"I get what you mean. I say we take a little two day break from playing music and then, we can choose what to play for the competition. How does that sound? And even though prelims start in November, we have all summer to practice so I don't think you have much to worry about."

"Sounds like a plan," Eun byul hummed.

"Jungwon, are you serious?!" Jungwon's grandma questioned, unable to comprehend her grandson's brash decision, "You want to take a break from playing the piano? I thought you were going to enter a competition next month. Is this because your greatest role model of all time isn't playing anymore?"

"Grandma, I know this is crazy, but I just feel that I need a little break. My piano season was pretty bad this year and I barely made it past the quarter-finals. I think trying something new will be refreshing."

"I get that you need a break, but if you're going to be an accompanist, do you even have a violinist you're going to play with?"

"Yeah, there's this kid who goes to my school, Kang Taehyun. He told me he's been needing an accompanist since his last one moved abroad," Jungwon exclaimed casually.

"Alright," his grandma sighed, "Make sure to tell your piano teacher that you won't be taking lessons for the next few months. I'm sure Mrs. Song will have a heart attack, but she'll understand."

"Thanks, grandma."

2 days later...

The summer sun penetrated through the windows of the school, making each classroom feel like a scorching oven. Students sat at their desks in a daze from the torrid heat as did Eun byul. She could barely pay attention in class and could only think about the upcoming competition.

"Students, as your summer break comes near, I don't want you to slack off. If anything, I'm expecting you to study a bit as much as you may not enjoy it. Therefore, I'll be assigning you to write a ten page essay about the Joseon Dynasty. It can be any of the topics we discussed and will be due the day you come back from break," Mr. Hwang, the history teacher announced.

The eyes of the students opened widely as groans were clearly heard.

"But teach, none of the other teachers are loading us with work," one student complained.

"Yeah, they said they would give us a break because of entrance exams!" another chimed in.

"Mr. Hwang, I'm going to be away for the whole break! I have swim competitions all over the country," Jongseong panicked.

"I'm going to be practicing for nationals," Eun byul thought to herself.

"There won't be any exceptions unless there's something serious going on. Sports events and college entrance exams are clearly not a problem. You should be able to write an essay over the break," Mr. Hwang monotonously said, "Now, enjoy your lunch."

Eun byul slumped at her desk, facing the ceiling. How on Earth was she going to be able to write a ten page essay and prepare for her upcoming competition?!

"So have you thought about what you're going to write about for the essay?" Heeseung asked her, turning around from his desk.

"You've already decided?" she groaned, "Heeseung, how are we going to have any time to practice?"

"Simple: we write the essay first to get it out of the way and then we can practice. We don't have any time for procrastination. If it makes you feel better, we can work on it together. Mr. Hwang never said we couldn't work together, right?"

"I suppose you have a point, Heeseung," Eun byul sighed once more.

"Let's start today after school. We can write the essay little by little and find a way to practice."

"Alright," she replied, "Come walk with me after school is over. We can go to my house."
