of how mark was able to get out of that situation is a mystery for him. he just found himself on a sofa, holding his phone. someone might have changed the topic and saved him from his misery.
"hey," his cousin called him.
"hello, taeyong," mark greeted back.
"i'm sorry for my dad," taeyong apologized after he sat besides mark.
"it's fine, hyung. it's true, anyways." mark tried his best not to crack as he's still on the sofa for everyone to see. taeyong noticed mark's discomfort and dragged the latter outside, out of everyone's eyes.
"no, it's not. you better continue my dream."
mark's eyes widened at the statement, "i thought you really wanted to be an architect?"
"you speak as if you see me everyday," taeyong laughed. mark suddenly felt awkward as it was the truth. they only gather like this once a year and only meet once or twice a year too. taeyong must have sensed that and so he quickly laughed. "i'm just kidding. you should continue it because it's your dream, not because i have told you to."
mark smiled, "i will continue it not because it's your dream but because it's my dream."
"yes, that's correct."
silence filled the atmosphere, it was not an awkward one anymore though. they are both on smiles.
"you know, they say we should always listen to elderly because they know what's best for us. well, the things is, the word "best" is subjective," after a moment of silence, taeyong started speaking again.
"it can be best to your eyes but not to me. same as bad, you know. it can be bad to my eyes but good to you. it depends on each's intention. for example, a raw mango was delivered to your house. your mother was sad because she wanted to make a mango graham for you, she needed a ripe mango for that, right? while for you, you wanted it raw because you created a shrimp paste beforehand that's why you ordered a raw one. sure, she wanted to do a graham for you, but you already have a plan and a raw mango with shrimp paste is good too, right?"
mark was actually listening to the very good analogy but he was still kunfused, "can we really compare that situation in real life situations?"
and with that, taeyong laughed, "i don't know, mark. but it should. or i'm not sure, because i don't make sense a lot of times." well, sure he do. and it's making mark think twice, may it be in a good or in a bad way, mark is not sure. "you see, i have learned this after i accepted my father's desire of me being an architect. and i would be glad to share it to you, this way i'll still be of any use for you. and that's enough for me."
he was thankful for taeyong for being a hyung to him. now, as he thought about it, he was never of any use to his family. he won't even do what they wanted. he's the youngest and he can't give any advices to them either.
"i know it's hard to stop overthinking. but at least try thinking of positive things, yeah? how about you go out today? it's only 2 in the afternoon. you can go to the plaza and chill there. if you want i can tour you."
mark's eyes suddenly sparked, "you can do that?"
taeyong chuckled, "of course. wait here, i'll get us a jacket and i'll tell your mom i'll take you out."
"thanks, hyung."
