─── shuntarou chishiya.

is there anything we can't do in order to survive ?

── but really , survival mean nothing to him. he didn't wish to die
recklessly  , of course , but in the end whether he lived
to see another day or whether he closed his eyes to the
world ── nothing mattered to him. if there was a god ,
if there was an afterlife ── he didn't care , uncharacteristic of
his inborn curiousity. the reason to keep living
in the borderlands stemmed simply from drive , from the
need to live on , unlike those inferior to him. and perhaps ,
a small part of him did fear death enough to not lose to
the hands of the grim reaper. he was human after all , and divorcing
himself from humane behaviour completely was quite impossible.
some framed it as blatant narcissism , but all of it was only rational.
in a world as selfish as the one he had lived in , and a world
as ruthless as the borderlands  ── fear for one's own life
and selfishness was only commonplace.

        ─── yui chishiki.

you know how some people blame fate ?
well , it's mostly their own stupidity
.❞

─── chishiki yui had always possessed a knack
for danger. or well , she presumed it was a
knack , whereas those around her were convinced
that it was a curse she took with her wherever she went
── almost like a devout following their god. trouble
marked her shadows , and maybe it was this troublesome
streak that had made her end up in the borderlands. but in
the end yui didn't need a reason. all she knew was that
she had to survive , death wasn't on her wish list , obviously.
recklessness lit aflame her veins , and yet she
continued to astound with her survival rate. her
amiable nature yet cold resolve surprised chishiya , and perhaps
even served as a mirror to his own self. but this reflection was
not something he could truly despise , as he might have wished.
death revealed one's true nature , after all ── and while yui prevented
herself from getting attached , forgetting that she was in deep danger
for a few moments didn't hurt. heartless as it was , unpredictability ,
was the only path to survival.

❝they were two sides of the same coin
                                ── in a world of spiraling insanity.❞
