Your bed felt empty and too warm that night, and you found yourself kicking the covers off to tread over to your thermostat and turn it down. There was a hum from above you, and you went back to bed, satisfied that it'd be cooler soon.

When you woke up again, you were delighted to feel a familiar chill in your toes and snuggled further into your covers. Just a few minutes later your alarm went off. Time to return to the real world, where you had to go to class and do responsible adult things.

You'd barely set one foot in the quad when you were spotted. Na Jaemin took off at a run from his seat on the planter, throwing his arms around your neck with such force that you swore he'd bruised your esophagus with his shoulder. Coughing through the pain, you hugged him back just as tightly nevertheless. He was your best friend, after all.

"How was your trip?" He asked, practically vibrating in your arms.

"I sent you pictures last night," you croaked out as he loosened his grip on you to instead drag you over to your other two friends.

"A picture may be worth a thousand words, but I want a million, so talk."

You chuckled, giving both Yuta and Jaehyun hugs.

"How bad were you at skiing?" Jaehyun questioned, giving you an easy start to your fibs.

"Very. I'm just happy that I didn't sustain any serious injuries."

"And Doyoung?"

"He was good at it, but even better at skating."

"Really?"

"Yeah, he played hockey when he was little. Practically grew up on ice."

Yuta made an amused snort at your statement, "He's probably good at any ice sports then."

"Probably."

Jaemin cut in again, "So did you bring us any souvenirs from the resort?"

"Yeah, Y/N, where are our presents?" Jaehyun joined in on the teasing.

"Sorry, but you guys were honestly the last things on my mind," you retorted with a shake of your head.

"Too busy getting dicked down by Kim Doyoung on your romantic getaway to buy overpriced tiny fridge magnets and keychains for your best friends?" Jaemin snickered.

You elbowed him in the side, "I'm going to demote you in my Quad Squad favorites hierarchy one of these days if you keep being gross."

"And who could you possible replace me with here that isn't gross?"

Yuta let out his barking laugh in agreement, and Jaehyun had the decency to act offended before shrugging his assent at Jaemin's assessment. You rolled your eyes.

"Point taken."

As soon as you stepped foot inside your World Literature classroom, you screeched to a halt, brow furrowing. It felt... different. A strange sort of feeling was coming from one area of the classroom. You locked gazes with Mark Lee, both your pairs of eyes widening simultaneously.

"Uh, Y/N?" Jaehyun nudged you forward. "Your feet stop working? Come on."

"Right, sorry," you apologized absentmindedly, starting your journey to your desk without taking your eyes off Mark.

His focus followed you until you were seated beside him. He seemed surprised but not necessarily confused, while you were very much both.

"What the fuck's happening?" You muttered to him under your breath.

"You're an Onmyoji, too," he breathed out just as quietly.

"Too?"

"Look at my neck," he turned his head away from you as he said it, showing off the back of his neck. He had a dark black lion there, his bond mark.

"Holy shit."

"I can't believe I've finally met another Onmyoji again!" Mark's eyes were absolutely glittering, his voice raising just enough to cause one of your classmates to glance over at you briefly.

"Again?"

"It's been a while since I've been around another Onmyoji."

"Oh, well, now you've got me."

Your classmate began rapid-firing questions, "So do you have any of your True Ayakashi? Do you know what those are? When did you get your powers? What have you done so far?"

"I have four of them, and I got my powers at the beginning of Spring Break. And I've done literally nothing with them. You?"

"I've just got one, and I've had my powers since before high school."

"Oh so you're probably like a master, right?"

"Definitely not, mostly self-taught. I have a whole Onmyoji library if you ever want to borrow a book or something."

"That sounds really cool, thanks!"

Mark's genuine enthusiasm held within his bright eyes and excited features gave you an idea.

"Do you know Jungwoo? He's an Ayakashi."

"I do, yeah. Tsukumo-gami."

"I'm visiting him today after my classes today, do you want to come?"

His back suddenly stiffened, and he cracked one of his knuckles anxiously, "I don't really think that'd be a good idea. Me and the shrine... there's a history there that I'd rather leave alone. Nothing too bad, just stupid teenage things I did when I was a stupid teen, you know?"

"Oh, okay," you responded, mind now running a million miles a minute. "No worries. But I'm definitely holding you to that offer of Onmyoji books."

"Of course! And we can still do Onmyoji stuff together, obviously."

Right as Dr. Kwan cleared his throat, you flashed Mark a smile, "Great."
