Sadly that moment didn't last very long because it felt like only seconds after somebody shouted: „We will reach port in about 20 minutes"
20 minutes??? My head shot up and I realized that I should probably get dressed as soon as possible because good heavens, I could not face my father like this...
„Relax, you look fantastic" I heard Orion say, as if he had just read my thoughts.
„I'm naked" I replied and he grinned: „I know"
Than grin right there made me want to forget about home immediately and relive the memory of a few moments ago but reality pulled me back. I jumped up, grabbing the blanket and went searching for my dress that must be all wrinkly by now. I found it, neatly stored in a chest and ran my fingers over the beads and seams. When I first saw this dress, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen...much had changed since then.
I heard Orion shifting behind me, putting his clothes back on and did the same. He helped me with the back of my dress and fastened my corset for me (luckily not as tight as my maids used to do it)
I fixed my hair the best I could and looked at him for approval. He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear: „Almost like the day we met but I prefer you sunkissed" he smiled.
His hand rested on my cheek and I put mine over it, sighing. „We should go outside"
His gaze lingered on me for a moment longer until he whispered: „Okay" and opened the door.
My kingdom had gotten so much closer, I could even see the little boats in the pier, the houses scattered on the mountain and the castle with our flag on top. Home at last.
Gibbs brought some chains and my hands were tied, we had to make it look real.
By now surely some of the guards at the coast must have spotted our ship. Normally the reaction would be canon fire but everybody was aware their princess was taken by pirates and they could not sink a ship with royalty possibly on it.
I anxiously stood there, watching the shore come closer and closer. The guards looked a little busier, I figured they saw me, it seemed like they were shouting for backup and minutes later I noticed the familiar deep purple color of the general's coat.
The crew prepared to dock the ship and Orion stood next to me shifting from one foot to the other, his face showing no emotion...such a good actor. I had no idea how to hide the sinking feeling in my stomach, atleast it fit the role I had to play anyway.
„Oy, pirates! Have you come to bargain?" the general shouted as we arrived.
„We will talk to the king and only the king" answered Orion with a smug grin: „One wrong move and he might just have to make another daughter to continue his line"
I pretended to be shocked and the general quickly nodded before turning to a guard and whispering something.
„We will allow three of you to enter the kingdom with the princess" he announced.
„You do understand you're in no position to make demands?" Orion asked slily „10 men and not less"
He didn't even need 10 men but getting his will seemed to satisfy him, the general's face turned slightly red but he nodded once in agreement and told the guards to escort us to the castle.
The people in town closed their doors, scared eyes peeking through the windows as we passed their houses. The castle stood tall in front of us, I watched quietly as the big gate opened and I was met with the sight of a familiar courtyard. A few minutes later I saw my father, accompanied by two guards, crossing the yard, closely followed by James.
„My daughter, is it really you?" he asked irreligiously. I nodded and gave him a faint smile.
„Your daughter is in one piece, maybe a little shaken but I promise she is just like we borrowed her" Orion grinned.
„I'd like to hear that from her mouth, not yours dirtbag" my father said.
„Careful with your words, old man" Orion snapped and took a knife out of his pocket, holding it close to me.
My father flinched and took a step back.
Orion's eyes met mine as he said: „Go tell your father that you're fine, sweetheart"
„They did not hurt me, father. I'm okay. Just do what they say, please" I said, reciting the lines we practiced earlier.
„See? We did not cut her tongue out or whatever" Orion smiled „now for your end of the bargain..."
