On your sixteenth birthday, everyone receives a small marking on their body. What's special about these markings is their purpose. You see, they are a way of showing who your soulmate is. If you have matching birthmarks, then that person is your soulmate. Soulmates are a different type of love, one that binds you to the other and connects you in a way that nobody else can fully understand. And my soulmate happens to be my arch-nemesis.
...
A quiet yawn escapes my mouth as I feel my eyelids start to droop. I knew pulling an all-nighter was a bad idea, but here I am, running on 20 minutes of sleep, three energy drinks, and a triple espresso coffee.
I absent-mindedly lick my dry lips, not bothering to grab the chapstick in my bag. The bitter taste of coffee lingers on my tongue.
"Up all night?" Techno whispers from my left. His long pink bangs effectively hiding part of his face from my view. The pinkette sighs deeply as the boring lecture continues. His glasses hang lazily on the bridge of his nose, as he peers down at his blank computer screen.
"He's like three steps away from being an insomniac." Wilbur -Techno's more annoying twin- snickers from behind him. His messy brown hair was tucked into a red beanie that looked like it had just been pulled out of a dumpster.
"Oh hush" I grumble, keeping my attention glued to the laptop screen in front of me. I struggle against my sleep-deprived eyes attempting to usher me to sleep. Honestly, the world just feels like shit right now.
"What were you even doing last night?" Sapnap prods. He begins poking the back of my head with his pencil eraser, and I resist the urge to reach back and snap the thing in half. Sapnap is a great friend and all, but he can also be a major pain in the ass.
"Shouldn't we be paying attention? Finals are next week," I note, hoping to change the subject off of myself, but to no avail.
"Nah," Techno snorts, mimicking a pig, "Since when are you so invested in your grades?" He tilts his head to face me, allowing his bangs to fall away from his hazel eyes.
I furrow my eyebrows, "I don't know what you mean, I'm always like this," I lie.
"Mhm," Wilbur hums sarcastically. His eyes narrowed.
I bite the side of my mouth, while the professor goes over page 456 for the forty-seventh time. Studying isn't exactly my "thing". I mean sure, I have decent grades, but I can't seem to force myself to look at a textbook for three hours straight. I honestly don't get how people do that, doesn't it get boring? Come to think of it, it probably has something to do with my severe ADHD and anxiety. Lucky for me, this is the only class I have today, and it happens to end in less than two minutes.
I impatiently tap my foot on the ground as I find myself staring at the ticking clock. It reads 11:57.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick
I watch as the minute hand inches closer to twelve. I look over and see Techno staring at the clock as well, his glass lenses reflecting a glare from the nearby window.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
The clock hits twelve and I slam my laptop closed, shoving it into my bag. By the time I turn around, Sapnap is already standing ready with his bag.
" Wanna grab a bite?" He asks, wiggling his bushy eyebrows.
I can hear Techno and Wilbur quietly snickering. I roll my eyes, "Let's go."
...
Ding ding ding
I open the door and bow as I casually usher everyone into our usual lunch place. My lips curve into a goofy grin as I waltz over to our table.
