The first battle, Flower defeated the Patrat with a few simple moves. Leila watched from beside Cindy. The next battle, Snivy nearly fainted, but pulled through and learned Vine Whip.

“Here you two go.” Cindy said, spraying them with some potions. “Now, I’m going to try Pidove and Leila next, so you two have a nice rest.”

She returned them to their Poke Balls. Leila looked up at Cheren’s podium. He was standing there with a thinking gaze. Cindy looked at him and climbed the steps, Leila following her carefully.

Cheren nodded when Cindy came close enough. “You battle pretty good, this was not your first time.”

“Blame Phil on that.” Cindy replied a little shyly.

“We don’t need to point fingers at anyone. I’m just glad it wasn’t your first time. Well now. Let’s begin.” Cheren said, releasing a Patrat.

“I’m going to try my new Pokemon.” Cindy said. “Go, Pidove!”

The bird Pokemon flew up in the air, twirling around happily.

“Well then, Patrat, use Leer.” Cheren said calmly.

The lookout Pokemon glared at Pidove and Pidove fell for the glare, but it’s ability, Big Pecks, kept the bird Pokemon’s defense where it was.

“Umbre.” Leila said nicely.

“Sweet!” Cindy said happily. “Use Gust!”

Flapping it’s wings, Pidove used Gust to send to Patrat up in the air.

“Quick Attack!”

While the Patrat was in the air, Pidove used his Trainer’s order, using Quick Attack, hitting the Pokemon while in the air. Flying away, the Patrat fell to the ground, causing a bunch of dust. When it cleared, Pidove was on Cindy’s shoulder and the Patrat was fainted.

“Good job, Pidove.” Cindy congratulated.

The bird Pokemon spread his wings and tweeted happily.

Cheren returned his Pokemon and sent out a Lillipup. “So, who are you using now?”

Cindy returned Pidove. “The one I’ve been waiting to use.” she replied. Leila looked up. “You’re up, Leila.”

“Bre!” Leila said with a hint of challenge.

The gym leader looked at the Umbreon. “A shiny one so early in your adventure?”

“My Mom caught her and gave her to me.” Cindy replied.

“Well. Let’s see how much this Umbreon trust you then.” Cheren said. “Lillipup, use Tackle.”

“Dodge it, Leila!” Cindy cried. “Then use Quick Attack.”

Leila, instead of listening to the first part, just used Quick Attack before the Lillipup used Tackle. The normal type was thrown back a few feet but quickly came to and barked at Leila.

“Nice counter, but it wasn’t what she said.” Cheren observed.

Leila growled. “Bre!”

“Lillipup, use tackle again.”

“Leila, use Dark Pulse to make sure he doesn’t reach you.” Cindy said quickly.

The shiny Umbreon tensed and from her body, released small dark purple flames that hit the Lillipup, making it pause, but continue. The Pokemon slowed, but it hit Leila still, making her scoot back a few inches.

“Quick Attack!” Cindy said.

Leila grinned with a hint of evilness. The puppy Pokemon looked up and Leila used Quick Attack, making the Lillipup cry out and fall back against a wall. He slid down and fainted.
