"Mason. Come on. Where are you? This isn't funny." I yell at him, looking for him, in the bed that's filled with blankets. I need his touch. And I'm cranky, and tired.
Married for a year and a half and I still need his touch.
I roll out of the bed, the sun shining brightly, illuminating the room to a vibrant orange.
A note is on the nightstand, I pick it up and read it.
Alpha duties, be home in a few hours, three at the most. Get ready tonight. We have a date.
Xoxo, Mason.
P.s. sorry I want there to touch you.
I blush.
P.p.s. I know you're blushing furiously.
In smaller handwriting: Don't deny woman. I know you want me.
I smile at the note, just as Kayla walks in, a sleeping Jake in her arms. "Alright. I'm going to get you ready for tonight. Go shower."
"Dimitri burned all my dresses last night, remember?"
"Oh yeah. You're my size, come with me." She turns away, going a few rooms down.
"Can I hold Jake? I haven't held him in forever."
"Oh yeah! That would help a lot." She hands me a sleepy Jake, black hair talking in his face. I brush it away, his small face smiling in his sleep.
He doesn't stir; he must get the heavy sleeping from Ajax. If that was an Olympic sport, he'd win gold. He's just a year old, already fit to be a beta.
This one time, Dimitri and I were fighting, kitchen utensils, catsup, mustard, plates. Anything. Small children (okay. We didn't go that far. But we were close to it), food.
Ajax woke up three hours later, after we had long been done.
The thing was, he was like the monkey in the middle. We had tied him hostage, put him on the middle and began our war.
Kayla grabs some leggings and a nice dress, throwing them at me. "I'll be in here; don't try to play games with me. I'll take Jake, he's going to wake up in a minute." She opens her arms for me to hand him to her, and I hand a small Jake to her.
The kid is tiny. Teeny weenie. Like, was I really that small and crushable? He opens his eyes, revealing a deep, rich brown.
He begins wailing, and I walk out.
After my shower, I felt clean. I look in the mirror; seeing a reflection of myself.
Brown hair, dark blue eyes, tall, tall, tall. Sharp nose.
Ajax walks in. "Hey." He says awkwardly.
It's been awkward since the two packs joined together, Mason as the Alpha, Ajax his Beta, and Dimitri is his Third In Command.
"Don't. You don't need to be so nice. I know what I did was wrong." I look at my wrists, the most beautifully ugly thing I've seen in my life.
The scars. They'll always be there.
"No, Jessica. It was. But I'm being nice because I like you. Sometimes I feel like you and Kayla are the only ones that listen. Thanks."
"No problem, I felt like you were the only one who listened to me sometimes."
"I'd better get going."
"See you soon."
"Yeah, you too."
