As journalism and literature passed by, English was the last class of the day. He was looking around the classroom because he was late and confused. He took his seat quietly, making eye contact with each other. That's when he sat down and chose down one chair across from me. He looked like one of those quiet, mysterious kids who liked to listen to music, smoked cigars all alone in the night time, and would ride home on his motorcycle. A snake tattoo was hugging his right arm, an anchor on his left arm, a rose just above that tattoo, along with a detailed heart to the upper left of the rose. His curled hair was caressing the bottom of his earlobe, and his green eyes glowing like the color of absinthe. Euphoric like absinthe.
Now, I know that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I was just wondering what type of person he would be.
By the looks of him talking to people around him and slouching against his seat, he looks like a social butterfly and he's filled with confidence, the kind of where you're stuck up. He's dressed up in all black, skinny jeans and a black t-shirt with its sleeves rolled, and black boots.
The teacher was discussing the story of Romeo and Juliet, what we think and so on so forth. I was the first to raise my hand. Feeling embarrassed i was the only one, the professor asked the "late bird." I, irritated but filled with curiosity, wanted to hear his opinion and what he had to say.
He went off to explain how Romeo could've easily had chosen another girl instead of dying with Juliet. Along with how theirs other fish in the sea, how she wasn't the only one for him, and she just was stubborn.
"How was Juliet being stubborn?" Why would she be stubborn when the love her life was forbidden to see his true love. Their families were the ones who drove them to death. Juliet had no fault in it and neither did Romeo.
Asking for his name, his lips turned upside.
He leaned forward from chair, causing him to rest his elbows on his knees. He folded his hands together, "My name is Seno, and what must you go by?" He squinted his eyes at me for a split second. His accent was rich and sharp.
"My name is Diana." I flashed a smile back
He goes on to explain Juliet's being stubborn and she could have forgotten all about him, making Romeo realize that she's not the only one for him, and to move on to another girl."Okay, you do understand that It was there families that drove them to death. They knew that they loved each other dearly, and the consequences that they'd face weren't any easier from the benefits-" He was quick to cut me off.
"Yea, but they could've easily have told each other that they weren't meant for one another and went along with their lives so Juliet could've married the County Paris."
"You have to understand that that's not what she wanted, and she made it obvious that her father wasn't going to control her or pick the love that she would have to spend forever with. She fell in love with Romeo and the fact that she could've have him made her want him even more. The both of them ended up committing suicide because when they found out that they were both dead, they couldn't bare to live any longer because they had nothing to live for."
I was upset, but I stopped myself. Knowing I would start a bigger argument, I knew I said enough to make my point though.
"And that ladies and gentlemen," the professor raises her arms in the mid air and claps, "is how you know that there, that this is a good story to debate and discuss."
As the professor continues of with the lesson, I look back toward the 'late bird' and see him wearing a smirk across his face. He solutes me from a far, happily.
He catches me staring at him and gives me a wink.
Imbecile.
After class was done Seno approaches me and offers to continue this discussion in a 'professional manner'.
He offered an evening together after school at the park. I wasn't so sure of the idea, having a picnic with- well Seno.
Why should I go with him? Is this some kind of trick, was this his shot to reject me or something. He's probably going to do something because of what I did in class. How I made a fool out of him.
"Why should I join you, for all I know you can lead me on and kill me."
Seno laughed, "If that's a chance your willing to take, but no, I just want to talk. You did prove a pretty good point in there, I might just reread it in a different point of view now." And he rubs the back of his neck.
I gave it a thought and gave in. I told him if I did we would have to go to the store together buy things to make a picnic, plus we could get to know each other.
We exchange numbers, then we go our paths.
"Meet at the grocery store at 4 p.m. sharp!" He shouted as he walked off with a smirk.
I went to my dorm to change out of my clothes that smelt like sweat from the walk to here from classes. I change to a baggy button-up flannel and my dads old ripped jeans that are probably older than me, and my dirty black converse. Most my clothes were once my dads, but I wear them now because they seem way more comfortable that any skinny jeans.
When we met up at the grocery store, I saw him wearing the same outfit, a plain black t-shirt with black skinny jeans that were ripped in the knees, topped off with black duke boots, but now he has a brown leather jacket on with black sunglasses covering his emerald eyes. He had a gold chain that dangled a gold cross at the end. I notice that he also has a cross on him left hand. He must be religious, but he also has tattoos so I'm not sure if it.
We bought some snacks to make for the picnic, and he wanted to buy something to 'apologize' for earlier.
While he was buying whatever he was talking about, I was looking for a basket to to place the groceries in so we wouldn't have to carry plastic bags.
He came back with his hands behind him. I said, "I hope you're not being stupid."
He chuckled and shook his head, "That's all you, princess."
Did he just call me princess?
I hate that name, that word.
It makes me feel weak, like I'm just a pretty face, like I'm good for nothing. Like I'm useless.
I rolled my eyes and crash the basket against his chest.
After I finished paying, we went to his dorm room. He had books toppled on top of each other, he had a painting or two hung up on his wall, and he had a vinyl record by his tidy bed. I noticed his closet was dark because of all the black clothes. He called me over and we started putting everything together. We got everything ready and we were putting everything into the basket, meanwhile I asked him what was his full name.
"My full name is Harrison Edward Stratford, and what I like to do in my free time is read and listen to music, now your turn."
He props his elbow the counter leaning on it with his body facing towards me, he grabs something from the appetizers plate and puts it in his mouth that has a smirk planted.
You can see how deep his dimples were. They were a nice touch to him. That smiles seemed too familiar yet I just met the guy.
"Mines is Diana Kali Jenson and an interesting fact about me is I like to read and I like to paint and do anything that has to do with art- and yeah, that's it, I'm kind of boring."
A thought came to my head, making my head shake, "Wait- why'd you fake your name in class,"
He cleared his throat from the grapes he was eating, "I didn't know whether to trust you,"
"And yet, you asked me to go on a picnic with you?" Silence filled the room.
"What's the deal with your name?" He was quick to change the subject.
I turned to him, "What's the deal with yours?"
He just shook his head and laughed it off."Well, with the help of my aunt, she's the one who named me, she's into Greek Mythology." A moment of silence erupts in the room once again. "The name means she, the goddess of death and darkness- I think, but I could be wrong,"
He walks past me and looks down to me, "That's a unique name."
He finished his sentence walking away with a smirk on his face, towards the door with the basket in his hand he signals me to go after him so we could leave.
