Elias had returned to his dorm at about 5am when he had finally gotten too tired to sulk. He crept back into the room, making sure not to wake anyone, before laying down and pulling the thick and surprisingly warm covers over his body. It was hard for him to gauge the passing time, however, due to the positioning of the commons. There were no windows that sunlight could pass through. With that in mind, he didn't want to end up over sleeping and missing his first class. He found it unlikely that any of his dorm mates would wake him up except for maybe Goyle.
He was able to get roughly an hour of shallow sleep under his belt before it was time to wake up and get ready. He was the first to rise to avoid any conflict.
Elias gathered his school clothes and completed his normal morning routine. When he returned from the bathroom, Malfoy and Blaise were up.
Blaise let out a laugh. "Your hands alright, mate? That was awfully aggressive."
Elias rolled his eyes and gathered his things for class so that he could leave the room as soon as possible. His first class of the day was potions with his head of house, Professor Severus Snape. He had almost two hours to kill and they were serving breakfast already. Good thing because he was starving. Not eating sufficiently the night prior proved to be a mistake.
The boy darted down the halls, coming across a few students on the way in passing. The few who did notice his presence broke out into whispers.
Oh, come on.
They were talking about him? Was he that much of a spectacle to them? And why on earth did word travel so fast? Were they all that bored?
When he arrived at the great hall, only a couple dozen students or so were littered across. It looked like most of them were reading and eating small breakfasts, perhaps preparing for their first class of the year.
Elias let out a sigh of pure relief when he caught Seamus' eye . He was sat across from Hermione Granger and the Potter boy everyone was so enamored by. But when he looked around the hall some more, he noticed that not every student was sitting at their house table. He could sit wherever he pleased. He set off toward Seamus and plopped down next to him with a huff.
"Mornin' to you too," he chuckled.
"Hi." Elias look dreadful. His skin was paler than usual, bags under his eyes, a lifeless look on his face.
"You alright, there buddy? It's not exactly common for... a muggle-born... to uh- to be sorted into Slytherin. Actually kinda unheard of."
Elias sighed and looked up at him, "Yeah, figured that out myself pretty quickly."
Hermione looked at him and smiled, slightly leaning across the table. "Wait, you're muggle-born too?"
He simply nodded and placed a couple of small pancakes onto his plate, topping them with thin slices of strawberry and banana. "Malfoy won't let me forget it either."
"I'm Harry," the other boy spoke up and gave him a friendly nod.
"Elias. And uh, I mean this as politely as possible, but why does everyone know you?" Elias inquired, filling his cup with some water.
"Harry's a legend! He defeated You-Know-Who when he was only a baby!" Seamus beamed. But this only created more questions for Elias.
"Sorry, but I do not know who."
Harry spoke up before anyone else could,"Voldemort."
Seamus and Hermione fell silent at the sound of his name.
"Seems like everyone knew before I did. Only found out myself on my birthday. Bit of a shock. He was a dark wizard. He killed my parents and tried to kill me too, but it didn't work. Somehow he just disappeared. So now I have this," He lifted his hair to reveal a lightning shaped scar on his forehead. As soon as Elias saw it, he had heart palpitations that caused him to grasp at his shirt over his chest and nearly choke on his pancakes.
