I was on my way to Roberts Mansion.
Greene, here, was holding the the gloomy, leather strap which was attached from the horses' mouths while I was right beside him. He kept on blabbering something about Walter but I didn't listen as I couldn't stop thinking about the great times we spent together.
Like one time, during Halloween, we both dressed together as a big, brown bear. I was the upper body while he was the lower one. Instead of trick-or-treating, we hid behind the bushes of our neighbors, and scared those away who wanted candy. We had such a great time, although we got scolded by ol'Mrs.Elizabeth for making her jump in horror and throw the bowl of candies on her own children.
A tear or two fell onto my cheeks but I wiped it off before Greene could notice any.
I could not imagine who would ever even think of killing him. Although Walter was rich, he was never greedy and was always ready to help anyone, even his worst enemy, which as far as I knew, he didn't have any.
The way from my condo to his mansion usually took 2 hours but we reached there within an hour as the road was clear and Greene whipped the horse until it galloped at full speed. I, on the other hand, despite wanting to see my dear friend so badly, was really frightened. I told him to slow down a couple of times, but he didn't follow a word I said.
Finally, at 9:15, we reached Walter's breathtaking mansion. Greene was completely astounded by the sight. It was all he ever wanted in his life. The astonishing, green foliage at his sight when he sees the world through this dazzling balcony. A place where his future children could grow up in. The windows which all represented each room of the mansion, brought the sunlight and lit the Mansion even during the cold winter. Even the attic. The beautiful entrance which would make even the poorest person feel the grand way he was welcomed to the mansion.
Greene was examining each and every detail of the mansion, while I was staring into his eyes which was sparkling with hope. Hope that one day he would have it all. And that one day his dreams would come true. Suddenly, I realized what I was there for and called Greene out of his dream. If it was some other case I wouldn't have bothered that much and let him continue, but this was different.
Greene parked the gig under a tree, got down and gave the horses some hay, which he brought in a bag, and rushed up to me, standing in front the stairs to the entrance. As we walked upwards, Greene could not help but notice every single engraving on the railing of the stairs, that as we stepped in front of the grand entrance he almost fell to the ground if I didn't hold his arm.
"Thanks mate!" He exclaimed.
"You were lucky this time, I had no idea why I did that" I said with a a sarcastic face. I was bitterly sad and hurt inside but I didn't want to show it to Greene because I knew that he would be sad too then.
He gave me a dirty look and just told me to lead the way.
The door, which was more of a gate, was opened and as I stepped into the threshold, I was greeted by a weeping Mary, who was Mrs.Roberts. I ignored the scene around me and went straight to the body.
This time I couldn't control myself and heavy tears slid down my cheeks...
