                                                      ~1 year later~

                                                           ~Firefly~

"C'mon, Fly! Wake up!" At the nickname, I raise my head to see my cousins, both my elders by a year, hovering just above my hammock. No, not hovering. They're hanging upside down, their prehensile tails are wrapped around the beams that support the roof, the curved barbs sticking into the wood.

"What does you two dum-dums want?" When I speak, my words are slightly incomplete due to my young age.

"We're going to the desert to meet Queen Thorn for your birthday!" Anaconda's  frill flairs out to the sides, turning a pink brighter than his brother's.

"Really!?" My cousins nod in union. "Awesome!"

Anaconda & Python drop down from the ceiling & we run out to the balcony. There waits my parents alongside my Auntie Rattlesnake & my Uncle Jambu.

"Well then, let's get going," my aunt leaps into the air, the rest of us follow her, Daddy picking me up & putting me on his back as I can't yet fly.

                                                     ~*MAGIC*~

We arrive at the tunnel to the desert. It feels... wrong. Daddy walks in, but we stop at the entrance, my aunt testing the air with her snake-like tongue.

"Why is Auntie Rattie doing that?" I whisper in Daddy's ear, using my favorite aunt's nickname.

"Because your aunt's sense of smell is very good. & there are dragons who might want to hurt Mommy," my father whispers.

"Why?" I do't see why anyone could want to hurt my mother.

"Because some people don't like that she is the queen of two tribes." I can detect a slight growl in Daddy's voice.

"Oh..."

We walk out of the dark, cramped tunnel & I see the exact opposite of my home: no trees anywhere, no water either. There's nothing but sand and some strange plants I've never seen before.

"Hey, Uncle Deathy," Python is now hovering beside my daddy, flapping his wings frantically to keep from plummeting to the ground, "Can I carry Fly for a bit? I want to take her to meet Uncle Qibli & Aunt Moon!"

"Okay," Daddy replies with a sigh, "but your mother has to stay with you."

"Deal. Hey Anni," my cousin calls to his twin, "ya comin?"

"As long as you never call me that again."

My father places me on Python's back & he walks to the left of the tunnel, where I see a straw hut with a "garden" out front.

"Hey, Py?" I ask my cousin.

"What's up, Fly?"

"What are those strange plants?"

"Oh! Those are called 'cacutusies'" Anaconda replies.

"'Cacti', darling," Auntie Rattie corrects.

"Oh," my cousin's frill turns an embarrassed crimson & a shameful dark purple.

"Don' worry, Ana, it otay." I pat my cousin's shoulder, causing his frill to turn a bright crimson, displaying his love for his younger cousin.

We reach the hut & my aunt knocks on the wooden door. A black dragon, a NightWing opens the door, That must be Ana & Py's Aunt Moon, I realize.

"Rattlesnake..." Moon gives my aunt a forced smile, "so nice to have you."

"Hi. We were passing through & these three troublemakers-" she shoots a playful glare at me & my cousins, who respond with silly faces & playful growls "-wanted to meet the famous Moonwatcher & Qibli."

Moonwatcher sighs & calls into the hut, "Qibli! Your sister came to visit!" When no response comes, she yells again, "She has dragonets with her! They're around Sandstorm's age!"

Before she can turn back to the house, a SandWing with freckles & a jagged scar across his snout appears.

"Rattlesnake."

"Qibli, these are my twin sons, Anaconda & Python," she gestures to each boy as she said his name.

"Well, who's the little purple one?"

"Glory & Deathbringer's daughter."

"Why do you have her?" The male asks suspiciously, clearly not trusting his sister.

"Wow," my aunt sound extremely unimpressed with Qibli, "You really have no idea what I've been doing the past... how long has it been now? Three years." Her tone drops on the last part.

"Answer my question, Rattlesnake."

"Firefly?"

I had wondered off during the conversation, losing interest in what the adults are doing, "Wassat Auntie Ratti?"

My aunt gestures to me with a smug look.

"Nothing, sweetheart!"

"Mama? Papa?" A sand-colored dragonet walks out of the hut.

"Hey, Sandstorm," Qibli speaks to the dragonet, "this is your aunt, Rattlesnake, your cousins, Anaconda & Python, & Rattlesnake's niece on her husband's side, Firefly."

"Hi!" The young male chirps.

"Hi!" I run over & tackle the new dragon in a hug. When I pull away, there's pink all over his sandy face. "Huh, I thought only RainWings & RainWing hybrids could change colors!"

My aunt giggles at my ignorance.

"Anyway, just wanted to stop by, see how you're doing," We turn, Auntie Rattie puts me on her back & lifts into the air, the boys flying wobbily beside us.
