"Your kid is a little devil." Zayn, which I now have the pleasure calling my husband, complains about our eldest son.
"He's your kid too." I point out. "And I bet he takes after you."
Zayn chuckles and sits down next to me on the blanket watching our three kids play around. I'm feel pride at what we've accomplished and how far I've come.
It seems like yesterday when I left Mark at the alter and ran off to another state. The truth is I was not planning on coming back, ever but I did, I came back for him, my husband because I realised that in that month and a half that I knew him, I fell for him, whole heartedly.
And now we have three kids together and Matt, our oldest, he is turning 9 today.
We invited his class to celebrate his birthday on the park. As my husband said, Matt can be a little hard to control. He is at that stage.
I would not trade my life for anything. I would take all the pain, the betrayal, the heartbreak and all the hardship if it will lead me right here again. I love my life.
"Lost in your head again." Zayn points out. I blink and mentally shake my head. "She's calling you." He points at Sofie, our youngest.
That little girl is an angel. She is so sweet, so beautiful and very elegant for a 3 year old.
"Mommy, mommy." Sofia yells running to us. She throws herself at me. "Mommy, Nate won't give it to me. I want it."
"It's not hers, I found it." Nathan, who is five years old retorts.
Having Nathan and Sofia so close together in age might have been a little reckless on our part because they are always fighting about something yet they follow each other everywhere but I blame my husband for that. He wanted a basketball team and it seems like he is getting it.
"But I saw it first." Sofia whines, her voice quivering signalling that she is about to cry and Nathan knows it.
"Lair." Nathan mocks her sticking his tongue out.
That is the problem with with having kids so close together in age. Matt torments Sofia and Nathan when no one is looking and Nathan torments Sofia even when people are looking.
And Sofia, she uses tears to get away with everything.
My husband said it, these kids can be little devils.
"Nathan!" Zayn calls out to him firmly showing his authority.
"But dad, it's-" He knows his father does not mess around.
"Give it." Zayn takes away the toy they are fighting about. "Neither of you will have it."
Another kid starts crying and when I lift my head to see who, it is a boy from Matt's class running away from Matt holding his hand.
I sigh know that Matt did something to the kid and now I have to apologise to the child's parents.
Zayn gets up and goes to Matt to scold him. We have been here for less than an hour yet my three kids have drained me finish.
I take out my cell to call Charlotte, Zayn's sister. She promised she would help with the party and the kids.
A phone rings behind me an I turn around to see Charlotte behind me. I take the cell off my ear and hang up.
"Took you long enough." I tell her an she rolls her eyes.
She puts her bag down. "Not my fault you can't control your spawns."
"Matt is being a nightmare today, the other day his teacher called us and told us he glued another kid to a chair, a chair." I complain to her. It does not help that her profession is therapy because whenever we see each other I just unload on her about everything, work, the kids, Zayn and the pregnancy cravings.
