You look up at the sky, the stars blurring into a dance of light while you feel the strength slowly drain from your body. You feel something on your face. It is cold.
A gloved hand, you think, slowly caressing your cheek. You try to lean into the touch, the rhythmic motion soothing you but find your body too weak to do so.

"So this is it, huh."

You look up at the stranger holding you so close. Your mind is fuzzed, unable to place him. And yet he seems oh so familiar. The comfort he brings going much further than simple physical touch.
He leans down his face, black hair falling over his eyes. You wish you could see them better. They seemed to be so pretty.

"I suppose it is."

The soft tones of his voice curl around you, wrapping you into a song of comfort and care.

"It seems as though your end has come, traveller."

His voice sounds choked now.
Like a broken music box, you think. Holding on desperately, but the melody has been defiled, irrevocably lost. And get, so incredibly beautiful still.
You feel a drop splatter onto your cheek. How strange. It isn't raining, is it? It must be a tear then, you realize.

"Why are you so sad?

You ask the stranger. Your beautiful, familiar stranger.

"I don't mind moving on. I am tired.
I have been for quite a while, actually."

You think how lucky you are, to be dying in the arms of one so safely cradling you.
A sob breaks from the beautiful face above. The tears streaking it seem so wrong there, the raw emotion so misplaced. It doesn't feel right to see him so shaken.
You reach up to touch his face, when he grabs your hand.

"I know you are. I know you have been. And I wish I could've helped you live again. I wish too, I could be happy to see you go."

He takes a deep breath, looking upon you with an expression so pained, it hurts.

"But you see traveller, the truth is, I am tired too. Have been for a lot longer than you. But then you suddenly came into my life.
I felt I had found happiness again.
How naive.
And now, my dear traveller, that your time has come, I simply wish that mine had too."

You tried to hold on. Hold on to the words flooding into your brain. Your body was limp, your mind unable to process them, the sound of his soft voice mingling into tones, caressing you and laying you to rest. You smile.
And when your hand slid from his, the tear streaked face of your beautiful stranger your final goodbye before sinking into eternal darkness, a broken scream filled the air around you.
Muffled into calm serenity.
