I've been in the infirmary ever since we'd gotten back to the compound.  Everyone keeps checking on me. Wanda has stayed here the whole time. I was right they are 3rd degree burns. The doctor said I needed a skin graft, for it to heal properly. Wanda is anxious about it, though.

"Look, Ms. Maximoff," the doctor explains. "Your sister's arm won't heal properly unless we do the needed surgery. And right now, that's a skin graft."

Wanda looks at me with a hesitant look. I shrug. My arm still burns, but everyone knew that at this point, I didn't have to keep saying it.

Nat knocks on the door, then lets herself in. "Hey, Lylie."

"Hey, Nat." I manage to get out.

"I'll leave you two." My sister leaves the room. The doctor follows her out.

"How are you feeling?" She sits down next to my feet on the bed.

I clear my throat, before I start tearing up. "It hurts, Nat."

She grabs my hand. "Shhh, it's okay." She comforts me.

I don't stop myself from letting the tears fall down my cheeks.

"What'd the doctor say?"

"They're um, 3rd degree burns, and that I'll need a skin graft. But, Wanda doesn't want to do it."

"You need it, if you're going to heal properly."

"Tell that to Wanda." I scoff.

She looks at me in my eyes for a minute before speaking. "What's wrong, Angel?"

"Huh, what do you mean?" I ask.

She gives me a look. "Something's wrong, Lylie. Just tell me."

I sigh. "Pietro. Today, got me thinking back to Sokovia."

She gestures for me to sit up, so I do so. Nat leans in and hugs me. Her arms warm around my back. Her body is warm. I wish I could stay like this forever. I take my left hand, the one that isn't burned and wrap it around Nat's back. I squeeze as tight as I can. My bury my face into her shoulder. She presses her lips to my hair. "You're gonna be okay. I promise."

I pull away from the hug and let our lips brush together. She pulls away. "I'll let you get some rest." Just as she was about to close the door, she says, "I love you, Angel."

"I love you, too." I smile and rest myself back down.

...

"How you feeling, Maximoff?" Tony barges into my room. "Seems they released you from the infirmary."

"It still burns, really bad."

"Why'd you go back inside?"

"What do you mean?"

"The burning building."

I just start to cry. "I wanted to save her."

"But why, kid. In doing so, you hurt yourself."

"I wanted to be like my brother. I know it's what he would've done. I know that he's proud of me." I attempt to smile through the tears.

"We may not have known your brother for very long, but he seemed like a good person."

Thinking about it, now, I've never seen Tony cry. But I can tell, talking about Pietro, really seems to get to him.

"He was." I keep my smile. "He was the best person I knew. He ways took care of Wanda and I. He was my best friend."
