Flight of the Pendraig Ch4
[Deep in the treeline outside of Safe Harbor]
Jade walked for a few minutes and stopped by a tree. She turned around and asked him. "Who are you and why are you here, Rowan?"
He looked at her with confusion. "I'm Rowan."
"I know that but who is Rowan? Are you a predator who will become a threat to Safe Harbor?" Jade asked as she approached him with a serious look on her face.
"No! I just arrived here. All I wanted was to help them get to safety," he told her and continued.
"Jora told me that you protect the humans and other smaller races, I was wondering if you could teach me how to survive here."
Jade frowned a bit as she thought about what he had said and what his intentions were. After a few moments, she replied. "I can teach you, but I will need you to tell me everything you know about survival so I know what I'm dealing with."
"You can teach me?" he asked in surprise.
"Yes, I can....but I need to know something first," Jade answered.
"What is it?"
"Do you intend harm upon this place?" she asked. "No, of course not!" he said in frustration.
"Then we shall begin tomorrow, We need to get back now. I'm sure that young fire pendraig is worried about her new father." Jade said with a smile and headed back to Safe Harbor.
Rowan followed behind her and thought about his situation with Ebony. "Am I the right person to be her father? I don't know much about pendraigs... Or how to be one!" He wondered.
As they approached Safe Harbor, Jade was about to answer when they heard a woman scream in pain. Both Jade and Rowan ran to Safe Harbor and saw the others crowded around Heather. She was going into labor.
"What do we do now?" Jora cried.
"Call for a healer!" Pike yelled as both he and Katie helped carry her to the healer's house.
Once they arrived, Tigré banged on the door and shouted, "Hey Doc! We have a pregnant woman who is about to give birth!"
"Alright! Alright! Quit banging on my door! I'm coming." The healer grumbled as he opened the door
"Bring her inside! I must first examine her!" he said. The healer was an elderly man with greyish white hair and grey eyes; fair skin. He wore a white robe with a short hemline and light green highlights and accents.
"Well don't just stand! Bring her in while I prepare the herbs." He said as he gathered some herbs; hot water and towels.
Both Pike and Katie helped Heather lay down on the bed and stepped back as the healer returned. "Alright, let's begin," he said. "Shouldn't we stay? We could help! Mr.?" Katie asked.
"Cadfael. My name is Cadfael Brown and yes you can stay." He replied as he grounded up some enigma root and mixed it with some water.
Cadfael, Katie, and Pike worked together as Heather screamed and tried to push out her unborn child while the others waited outside of the house. After five hours, a tiny baby girl was born. Cadfael cleaned the infant off with a washcloth and wrapped her in a blanket. He handed her to Heather who held her crying daughter closely as she cried tears of joy.
"She's beautiful!" Heather said as she kissed her daughter's head. Katie smiled and asked, "What are you going to name her?"
Heather thought about it and said. "I think I'll call her Enora." Katie smiled and said, "That's a pretty name!"
