This is more of a biological thing that gets passed down from ancestor to current person rather than an illness. It origins from the Dragons, an old and supposedly extinct species. Very rarely, once every few eons, is there a person with this ability. Many view it as either a curse or a blessing from the gods.
There have been instances where mortals with this ability have been called gods with how powerful they were seen as, such as a incubus/succubus mortal or a gargoyle.
The symptoms are usually overlooked in the world as just mutant genes passed from the parents, especially for they're from a Vampire, Were-, Mer-, Naga/Sanskrit or Fae family.
They symptoms have usually included:
~ Fast healing
~ Mostly immune to sicknesses and infections
~ Rather blank mind, usually looked over as ADHD/ADD
~ Slower movement than the average person
~ They can usually see ghosts, usually looked over as Hallucinations or being a Medium
In rare cases, other symptoms have included:
~ Temporary insanity
~ Bursts of maniacal energy
~ Delusions of being a god
~ Delusions of being a demon
~ Hallucinations of long dead dragons
Not many are aware of this ability, and usually just think the person with it wasn't killed properly or is immortal.
Another reason it has the word "chance" in the name is because it's a choice. Whomever has this ability can chose if they wish to use it or allow another to use it.
On the verge of death, they see a being. It asks if they wish to continue with life, given the "Second Chance", or if they would rather give the extra life to another being that may need it in that moment.
If they chose to give up that extra life, they are given another choice. To live as a ghost and help whom they've given the extra life or to move on to their next life/afterlife. From there, allow your imagination to say what happens next :)
