Hopeless Smiles

This is one of the most fatal viruses to exist in the multiverse. It is an incurable infection that is as infectious as it is deadly.

Symptoms include:
~ Black blood
~ Black or red blood leaking from eyes and/or mouth
~ Skin becoming coal black
~ Pseudobulbar affect
~ Sclera becoming black
~ Continuous smiling
~ Violent outbursts

Being highly infectious, it can hop from realm to realm. It is nearly impossible to detect when first caught, as it incubates in the host's body for eight weeks before the symptoms show. It is incurable.

It was originally thought to just be a mutated corruption virus. That was proven false as it spread across the multiverse, shutting off pathways to other realms and forcing worlds to be completely locked off from other worlds.
Those who have somehow manage to survive the virus are left permanently damaged, known as Halfers.

A Halfer is left normal for the most part, but are much more aggressive and violent. They show lack of empathy, tossing the needs of others away unless they were considered close family before they turned. Physically they changed with the virus, always smiling and blood leaking from their eyes and mouth. Nosebleeds may occur at random.

A group of uninfected survivors, called Hunters, Curerees or Searchers, are attempting to find a anti virus to heal the Halfers. They are a relatively small group of mostly non-infected humans and creatures living in an alternate timeline parallel to what some would call "Undertale". They remain underground.

With what research has been done, many are beginning to suspect that this is not a virus but in fact a parasite. Not enough evidence has been gathered to fully support this theory though..
