"Why is it always Beauxbatons and Durmstrang?"

"Not necessarily always," Rose corrected Cynthia. "They're taking part in the Tournament this time, and they took part last time. I don't know if they did the time before that, or the time before that. Et cetera."

Cynthia shrugged. She and Rose were studying in the common room that evening. Scorpius had yet to make an appearance.

"I still think it's odd that we're actually having a Tournament," Rose mused, tapping her pencil on her nose. "By the way, were you listening to Binns (A/N: yes, prof Binns is still teaching bc he's a ghost.) today? I have no idea who started the goblin rebellions. Did he mention it?"

"Dunno. Wasn't listening. Just write down a random name or something." Cynthia squinted at the clock, which read 9:34pm. "It's getting late. Where's Scorpius?"

"Maybe he got caught by Filch," Rose suggested. "It's past curfew." (A/N: Filch is still there cuz...idk. He just is.)

Cynthia looked dubious. "Maybe. He could have come in here before and gone straight up to his dorm. But I don't think he would do that, unless he was sick... and he looked fine at dinner."

"I don't know, then."

"I have a bad feeling about this," Cynthia said abruptly, her green eyes troubled. "Maybe we should go look for him."

Rose frowned. Cynthia and Scorpius were very close, and if Cynthia was sensing that her brother was in trouble, he probably was. She felt a flutter of worry.

"I don't know," Rose said cautiously. "We can't exactly look for him without getting caught by Filch ourselves. And for all we know, Scorpius could be in detention right now. Like maybe he had a detention to go to after dinner and he didn't tell us."

Cynthia pursed her lips. "No, I'm sure it's not that," she said anxiously. "I have a really bad feeling about this. We need to go look for him."

This was typically the point when arguing became pointless. In Rose's experience, what Cynthia really meant was "We're going to go look for him, and that's final."

Rose sighed. "Fine," she relented. "But if we get caught by Filch, the blame's on your shoulders."

They emerged into the corridor. Rose placed a hand on Cynthia's arm and raised a finger to her lips, straining her ears. Everything was silent.

"Okay," she whispered. "I don't think Filch is anywhere near here. Which way?"

Cynthia frowned slightly, then pointed to the right.

"But we don't know where that goes!" Rose protested. "If we go left we can search the castle. We don't know what'll happen if we go tha - "

Cynthia placed her hand over Rose's mouth and looked her straight in the eyes. "Rose. Just trust me, okay?"

Humph.

Rose pried Cynthia's hand off her mouth. "Okay," she grumbled. (A/N: GAAAHHH TFIOS OMYGODSOMYGODSOMYGODS. Lol. Keep reading, okay? Okay.)

They made their way down the darkened corridor, walking as silently as possible. Rose kept an eye out for doors, but the stone walls remained bare. Eventually the corridor ended at another one that branched off to the left and right.

Rose looked questioningly at Cynthia. The girl could practically sense where Scorpius was most of the time. It was weird, because Cynthia and Scorpius were one year apart. Rose and Hugo were twins, and their sibling-connection stuff wasn't anything like what Cynthia and Scorpius had. But then again, suffering sometimes drew people together. Rose suspected the siblings were close because, at least until Rose came along, they only had each other. Because of their ancestry.
