I was handcuffed and had a rope tied around my neck. Sevika dragged me roughly. It was tight and rubbed against my skin. I held back my tears trying to stay strong but the thugs would stare at me, smiling at me hungrily. I was so overwhelmed. In only a few minutes, my life had crumbled around me. Now I was left alone, to face a threat that was unknown to me. We were generating the part of the undercity that Eva wouldn't let me go in anymore. It was where Powder and Vi used to live with Vander. But it had grown dangerous since Vander was killed. It's said that the man who runs this place now lives in the Last Drop.
We continued to walk down narrow alleyways, passing strange buildings, women dressed in skimpy clothing. Figures were hunched over and I could hear them muttering incoherently. I gulped nervously. Then we came to an opening where a lot of neon signs hung up. In the midst of it all was the last drop. Oh no! We were heading towards it. I pulled back slightly, scared. Sevika tugged on my rope, causing me to stumble forward. We walked in. It smelt disgusting. Booze mixed with sweat and sick. It made me want to be throw up. When Vander owned it, it smelt much nicer than this.
One of the thugs came towards me leaning down. "You like it little girl?" he whispered chuckling dryly. Sevika towards the thugs.
"I'll take it from here. Go." The thugs scattered, joining the crowd of drunks. Sevika tugged to a door at the back of the pub. We went up some narrow stairs. She walked me down a corridor. At the very end, she knocked on the door. "Silco, I have something for you," Sevika called out.
"Come in," came a quiet reply. Sevika opened the door and threw me in. I fell to my knees. I looked up to see a big office. It had dark furniture and a lush red carpet. A big circular window leading out to a balcony was just behind a desk. The chair was turned facing the window.
"This one was found with Eva. Might be mute. Hasn't spoken once," scoffed Sevika. From the turned chair, a tall man stood. He walked around the desk and towards me. I lowered my head. Was this him? The devil himself!? Before I could finish my thoughts, a pair of gold-lined boots appeared before me. I felt myself shaking. I was terrified. A hand cupped my chin and lifted my face. I was now facing a character that struck terror in my heart. He was thin and tall, his skin a whitish colour. His face had a mutilated scar on his right eye, the eye itself black with a pupil the colour of fire. Compared to his green eye on the other side of his face, it was a contrast. He wore black trousers, a velvet shirt, and a black vest with gold-rimming it, to match his boots. He started at me deeply. I felt slightly uncomfortable. Was this the crimelord? He didn't seem that bad. Despite his strange complexion.
"What's your name?" His voice was cool, almost relaxing. But I said nothing. Sevika yanked on my rope.
"Speak you little rat." I whined at the rubbing on my neck and I tried to pull at the rope to loosen the grip. The man glared at Sevika.
"Really Sevika, is that necessary? She won't do anything. She's clearly a scared child. They are the weakest things so please release that rope from around her neck. And untie her hands."
"But-". The man held up his hand.
"Don't make me repeat myself Sevika." Sevika nodded and quickly undid my restraints. I rubbed my neck. My skin felt raw. The man then shooed away Sevika who left in a huff, slamming the door as she went. The man crouched back down, looking me directly in the eyes.
"What's your name little one?" I looked at him. Eva always said that being cooperative was key.
"Y/n," I mumbled.
"So you do talk. That's an unusual name Y/n. How old are you?"
I'm five years old sir." Manners were also important.
"Polite for such a young girl." He stood up and walked to the window, calling me over. I quickly shuffled after him. He picked me up and place me on the chair. I was confused. He was being so nice. It made me feel uncomfortable. I also didn't like how he was treating me like a baby. I am capable to do things by myself. I looked out the window. It overlooked the undercity.
"Do you like what you see child?" His voice was soft. I shook my head. "Why not?" he demanded.
"It's a lot scarier than it used to be. And dirtier. And smelt better." He chuckled dryly.
"You have a lot of opinions, don't you. Though the drunks are grim to look at, they make me money so I won't complain about it." I looked up at him.
"Who are you?" I asked. " Are you the scary man who has taken over the undercity?" H looked down at me and didn't say anything. Then he sighed.
"My name is Silco. Yes, indeed I am that so-called 'scary man' but what I am doing is for everyone, even if not everyone agrees. Like your Eva, " he muttered. I looked away. Was he the one who ordered Eva to get killed? I will kill him! He crouched down.
"You see child, you Eva was a nuisance. After Van-. I mean the old person who ran this place died, she kept holding up my production of something I like to call shimmer. She was stopping my plan. Stopping progress for the undercity. Your so-called Eva was getting in the way. And to remove a problem. You kill it." I stared at him. I felt so angry. I wanted to kill this man. I had to get out of here. "And it appears that Eva has filled your head with rubbish. But now that foul woman is dead. You are free child. From her lies."
I couldn't take it anymore. I quickly reached into my shoes and grabbed the knife. In a quick movement, I stabbed Silco in the shoulder, making sure the life went deep. He fell backward holding onto the knife. He yelled at the sudden pain. I quickly scrambled to the window, opening it. I felt someone grab my foot. I looked down and saw Silco, tightly gripping my foot.
"Why you little brat," he growled. The knife was still lodged in his shoulder, very close to his neck. Blood was spilling onto the floor. I heard someone open his door. I had to think quickly I kicked the knife in his shoulder. Silco let go and screamed in pain. I quickly went to the side of the building and climbed up it. I reached the roof and looked over the undercity. I heard shouts from down below. I had to go. I started to run. And I didn't stop.
