Chapter Eleven 🦎 Battlefield 🦎
Aurora walked out of her room and down the hall but slowed when she heard Ronan talking. Talking more than he normally does. Aurora quietly walked around the corner and stopped when she saw Ronan sitting in the couch, facing Derek who held a book about dinosaurs.
Ronan was pointing at random things and explained them while Derek listened, occasionally asking something, further engaging Ronan in the conversation. Maeve sat in one of the chairs, fully focused on a new books that Leah had brought her from the library.
Aurora leaned against the wall and watched, not wanting to interrupt Ronan talking. A moment later Derek glanced at Ronan before noticing Aurora but Ronan was too busy talking and Maeve was too busy reading to notice her as well. Aurora smiled softly at him before walking over to the kitchen to make some coffee.
When she was done she poured the coffee into a couple mugs and turned around as Derek walked over to her. "He's a smart kid." Derek said as she handed him a mug and she chuckled and nodded, "Yeah, I'm supposed to get them tested soon to see if they're gifted kids." She said before leaning back against the counter, looking over at the twins.
Ronan had abandoned his book and was standing next to Maeve who taken her focus of her book to pay attention to whatever Ronan was whispering to her.
"Thank you." Aurora said making Derek look at her confused, "For what?" He asked and she looked at him with a small smile. "Not only is that the most I've heard him talk... that's the first time he's picked up that books since it happened." She said making him glance at the twins as Maeve was whispering something to Ronan.
"I just picked a random book on the shelf." He said and she smiled at him and raised her eyebrows, "Yeah, but I don't think you realize how much it means to him for man, other than his uncle, to want him to talk about the same book that his own father told him to shut up about. So thank you." Aurora said and Derek nodded slightly as they stared at each other for a moment.
All of the sudden the twins both giggled making them look over as Maeve quickly got off the chair. "Where are you two going?" Aurora asked as they started running out the livingroom, "To prank uncle Isaac!" Maeve said and Aurora nodded. "Carry on then." She said and Derek chuckled and shook his head, "He probably already knows they're coming." He said and she nodded.
"He'll still pretend." She said and they both looked at each other before smiling.

An old and burned book drops to the floor before Derek grabs another from a shelf inside the Hale House, desperately searching and discarding book after book. He pauses, turning to see Aurora walking over to him with her eyebrows furrowed.
"What are you looking for here?" She asked as she walked up to him and he sighed, "A Bestiary." He said and she nodded. "Ah, good luck with that." She said and he sighed before looking at her, "Why are you here?" He asked and she shrugged slightly.
