There was no hope in this situation, Dream was positive that at any moment now his life would end, if he some how wasn't dead already... He felt drowsy, sleepy, he probably passed out and he knew that...at least it would be simple, he thought... But Blue and Ink wouldn't think that...they would think he suffered until his lungs filled with water... That thought was probably the saddest, he hated that they'd think that's how he went...he truly does...
But just as he thought that his death was upon him, his eyes began to open. This in it of it's self surprised him, but what happened next...well...
"Oh good you're awake, me and my mate saw you fell in and-"
"Mate?... Are you Australian? Maybe from the boat-"
"No we aren't, been their though, wouldn't recommend it..."
"You have?- Wait no who...are...w-what..."
"Oh no...here we go..."
Dream started shaking when he saw the ginormous arms that were holding him above water, only growing more horrified when he saw the grey shark tail swaying beneath him. He didn't know which kind of Creature this specifically was, only knowing that it could easily eat him. The only way that this could get any worse would be if he was a siren- But no those were normally woman and this was a man...he thought... But that trivial fact wasn't important and Dream knew that, squealing and starting to freak out when he realized that.
"Please don't eat me!- I won't say-! Mm!?-"
"You won't have to if you keep screaming..."
The Creature held a hand over Dream's mouth as he ducked under the dock more, hearing noise come from above.
"Please...all I wish to do is help you... If I wanted to eat I would've twenty minutes ago, instead of using my magic to warm you up and heal you... So...I'm gonna take my hand off your mouth, so don't scream..."
Slowly the large Ocean Creature removed his hand from Dream's mouth allowing him to breath freely.
"Thank you then...for that..."
"You're welcome!- I'm happy you aren't scared of me- no I mean I'm happy your ok...but also the first thing..."
The Creature chuckled awkwardly, stopping after he noticed Dream's nervous look.
"Is it my teeth that freak you out? Got something stuck in them?"
"Oh, hehe, um n-no..."
"Don't lie I get it, it can be a lot for people...even my mate was a little nervous the first time he saw them..."
"So you're a woman?"
"N-No!- We're different- Don't assume..."
"S-Sorry, I've always been told that you're kind can be more...f-fairel... So I thought that well you know..."
"I...I guess... But we aren't, we were actually banished? Exiled? One or both of those things for loving each other, our high up families didn't like it for reasons..."
"I see...well it better not be because you're mate likes eating people...ehe..."
"He doesn't!- He's just...um..."
The Creature tried to think of a way to describe his mate without scaring Dream, but was to late. Dream had looked down into the water he was wading in, having felt something brush against his leg, just to see something terrifying. Tentacles were slowly crawling there way out from the dark obis that was the ocean, making Dream again start to panic.
"W-What is that!?- Mhm!?"
Dream let out a mumble into The Creatures hand, as another started to surface. It was some octopus thing, having a skeleton top like the shark but being much darker in complexion. That as until the darker color started to slip away in small clumps of black goop, revealing a much more normal paletted skeleton, except for his purple eyes that is.
"Ok I finally found something to wrap that wound in- Why are you holding a hand over his mouth?-"
"Nightmare! We were doing so good, he wasn't even scared anymore!"
Nightmare, an odd name but it wasn't like it was much weirder than Dream, the winged fey thought himself.
"Oh I bet you did Crossy, and I'm sorry I interrupted. But I did get what you want..."
And Cross, probably an even odder name then his and Nightmare's. But more importantly what did Nightmare get for Cross or more for...him?..
"I guess...and I know I wanted it but do you mind?"
"No, just keep him still"
"Ok! Will do!"
When Dream felt Cross tighten his grip on him he started to squirm and freak out, even more so when he saw Nightmare dip back into the water. Dream thrashed and desperately tried to escape Cross's grip but was to late, feeling a stinging pain on his lower leg. He wince thinking the pain would continue, but it didn't, a small tingling feeling only remaining after the initial pain subsided. Just as that happened, Nightmare again popped out of the water.
"Should hold until he can get some help from some healers, or doctors, or both. I could always heal it now though, but he'd need-"
"I know, I know, since he's awake now he has to give consent...kind of..."
Dream had an overwhelming feeling of confusion wash over him when he heard that. Why would they need his consent to heal him? Dream felt the hand on his mouth get taken off, when that happened he was going to ask what Cross and Nightmare meant but before he could his leg was grabbed and brought up by Nightmare.
"You're probably confused as to what that means, well my kind less and mostly not Cross's, has to be given permission to help other creatures other than our own. I can heal you more efficiently than Cross and probably anyone else could, but I need you to tell me I can first..."
Of course the first thought Dream had was to say fuck no...but really what reason did he have to do so?.. Speculation of the unchanged that he isn't even one of?.. His kind was described as beastly and dangerous, and most of them never were...and besides all of what these two did to him has helped...so what really does he have to worry about?..
"...O-Ok...go ahead..."
"Ok, and thank you for trusting me...you had no reason to..."
When Nightmare said that, Dream got confused once again. So as Nightmare began healing him, Dream asked about it.
"Why? I mean of course at first I was a bit anxious, but all you've both done is help me..."
"I...I don't want to tell you about that, about what happened... But hey, if you come back then maybe I will."
"Night..."
Cross grumbled, making Nightmare chuckled awkwardly just as he finished healing Dream.
"Joking of course..."
"Oh alright...and truly thank you for this... I would hate if I died and left my family..."
"You all don't have much I'd presume"
"Ya...I work here, and never saw either of you..."
"Didn't Cross already tell you why we're here?"
"Oh yes he did..."
"Thought so, but still I am shocked that you've never seen our kind before."
"It did surprise me when I first started working here to, I thought I'd at least see one my first year but nope..."
"That is surprising like Nightmare-"
"Hey I think I see something!"
Cross's words got cut off as someone on the deck yelled over him, reaching down after they did so. Both Nightmare and Cross appeared to get visibly scared when this happened, quivering slightly and hiding further back under the dark structure they were under.
"You have to go now Dream, so next time for when we aren't here please be careful..."
Cross quietly said, Dream nodding with a smile on his face.
"Ok...and for the last time thank you..."
"You're welcome, now..."
Nightmare took Dream from Cross, Dream only realizing then how much smaller Nightmare was compared to Cross. But before he could comment he was guided over to the human hand reaching down to try and grab him. Dream was pulled away quickly, trying to wave bye before he was pulled away but having no clue if the two Creatures saw the gesture.
When he was pulled up, he was asked if he was ok countless times. He said he was but of course he still had to go to the hospital. Dream knew this and didn't fight that fact, only looking down into the ocean to see if the ocean changed were still there...but they were already gone... Dream let out a sigh of relief when he saw this, being only happy as he was wheeled away into an ambulance.
