IV: Some More Car Rides

It's funny how life works, how many times in a month people decided to remove me from my daily activities to threaten me and further their agendas. But at least I was used to it by that point.

"Before we start, I just want to clarify that I don't know anything." Luck favors the bold, so if I was bod enough to start the conversation, than maybe I would be lucky enough to live.

"We're just going to have a small talk, reinforce some things." The gun returned to his pocket. "The child lock's on, so don't even think about jumping out. And keep your hands where I can see them. I don't want you calling your little friends."

Furrowing my brow, I looked out the window, watching my block pass. Maybe it was fortune favors the bold—I think that's it.

"Min may think he controls this city, but his empire's cracking," Senior Inspector Dickbag, or whatever his name was, began monologuing. I watched him talk, his skin clinging to his cheekbones, stretching tightly over the bridge of his nose and melding awkwardly to his lips. He definitely looked like a cop, but the type who played a TV villain rather than the one who saved the city and caught the bad guy. "Min thinks can pay off all the fat superintendents, but it's us he has to worry about—the ones who go out on the street and get shit done."

I turned back to face Dickbag. "Inspector Kim seemed pretty capable, don't you—?" My temple slammed against the window, the other cheek burning where Dickbag's hand collided with it.

"Shut the fuck up, you bitch," he growled, his hand raised threateningly. "I will kill you if I have to. You're disposable."

"Wait, are you with Kang-yeol, or the police?" I knew the hit was coming, that I'd provoked it, but it still hurt like a bitch.

"Inspector Kim is an idiot, and not associated with us," Dickbag said, his nostrils flaring. "And I will kill you next time you open your mouth."

Blinking, I stopped myself from smirking as I watched him pull the gun back out. I never liked it when my life was on the line, but it was pretty funny how easy it was to stir him up.

Smoothing his shirt, Dickbag continued his villain monologue. "Us cops may be the ones who get things done, but we have our limits. Undercover cops can only observe from the lower ranks, which is why we need you."

If it wasn't for the recent return of the gun, I would've pointed out how the superintendents must've been pretty powerful if he couldn't accomplish anything undercover.

"But you're not limited by the law. And you're good at wheedling your way into people's lives. Which is why we need you to help us."

Turning back to the window, I sighed. I really wished past me had never got involved with Min-sun, who I wholeheartedly blamed for getting me into this mess.

"We've all seen that photo of you at dinner. We know you've already found your way into Min's inner circle in less than a month. I'm sure finding anything incriminating would be a bit more of a challenge, but I believe you're capable enough," Dickbag said smugly. "And if you decide to ignore us, we'll use your sister as collateral. But for now, just make sure to tell Min he should find replacements for his narcotics man."

The car parked in front of my apartment, its doors unlocking. "Farewell, Senior Inspector Dickbag." I scrambled out of the car before he could hit me again, pulling my phone out of my pocket and quickly dialing Jungkook's number as the car sped off.

"Ha-eun?"

"Is Taehyung okay? You have to make sure he's okay."

"Uh, I think he went out to check the den in Yangcheon."
