"Grams, what's happening?!" Sidney yelled out when she was awoken from her slumber by loud banging. "Grandma!"

Her grandmother went into her room with a look of despair on her face.

Before any of them could say anything, there was another loud bang and their small flat felt like it was shaking.

They heard yelling and crying from outside and Sidney glanced at the older woman just in time to see her wipe away a tear.

In a flash, Sidney was out of bed and rushing out of her room to check out what was going on outside, her grandmother hot on her heels.

When they got to the door, passing through the small living area slash kitchen, Joyce, Sidney's gran stopped her and turned her around.

"Listen Sid, on the other side of that door is something that's gonna be life changing for us. But whatever happens after this, just know that I love you so much, baby, and I'll always be here for you. Do you understand?" Joyce said, looking directly into her granddaughter's eyes.

"I-," Sidney started to say but she was cut off by the shaking of the flat. "I love you too nan." She said, now having a vague idea of what was going on.

"Now, to your room and pack up as much as you can." Joyce said hurriedly and Sidney didn't have to be told twice.

She rushed away from the door and when she got to her room, she took our her large bag and started shoving stuff into it.

It didn't take her a lot of time to clear out most of her belongings because she didn't have a lot to begin with.

Tears brimmed her eyes as she moved around the room but refused to let them fall.

"Are you done, baby?" Joyce stuck her head into her grand daughter's room.

"Yeah, nan. You?" She asked and Joyce nodded. "Got your meds?"

"Yes, now let's go." Joyce said.

Sidney looked around her room for the last time. She had all her essentials and personal things. But she she knew that life wouldn't be easy from now on, as if it wasn't hard enough before all this.

She walked out of her room and dragged her bag to the door with her ruck sack over her back.

"The building will be demolished in less than five minutes. If you are still inside, evacuate immediately!"

Sidney and her grandmother looked at each other then they took deep breaths and stepped out into the hall.

None of them dared to look behind because it hurt as it was, to be chased out of their home, they didn't need to miss it even more.

They quickly walked to the end of the hall. Sidney thanked the stars for staying on the ground floor because she wasn't sure if she would have dragged her bag and helped her grandmother with hers.

When they stepped out of the building through the large doors, the sight was so heartbreaking. It automatically brought tears to Sidney's eyes.

Men, women, the elderly and children, basically all kinds of people were outside with their things surrounding them.

Men and some women were arguing with the workers, while others were trying as hard as they could to explain to the children what was happening. The others were crying their eyes out. It was a sight that Sidney did not wish on anyone, not even her greatest enemy.

She guided her grandmother to where they were fewer people and had her sit down on a bench.

"Relax, grams. It's all gonna be okay soon." Sidney said patting the older woman when her breathing picked up.
