The morning was cold. Very cold indeed that Nick's teeth were chattering as he walked to the Starbucks that was just around the corner of his work place. He was on an errand to get coffee for Mr. Kent, Ms. May and himself. The cafe came into view soon enough and he almost broke into a jog just so he could be engulfed into the warmth of the cafe.
He sighed contentedly and smiled to himself as soon as he walked into the cafe. And as anticipated, the atmosphere was much more bearable than the cold outside.
He soon got each of their favourites and he cursed out loud once the cold air hit his face once again.
"Why he just can't drink office coffee, I'll never know." Nick complained angrily as he walked back to the company building.
When he was inside the office building, he did a little happy dance in his head and quickly got in the lift, going up to the twentieth floor where the CEO's office was located.
"Oh Nick, there you are," Ms May said almost sounding relieved, "he has been asking for his coffee." She told him to go right in and give it to him.
Their working space was just inside the boss's office with only a glass separating them; the glass was designed in such a way that it could be transparent or not with a little control remote that Mr. Kent had. And Nick's working table was opposite Ms. May's, close to the window overlooking the city.
He walked inside the office after a small knock and gave the man his coffee after giving Ms. May her own.
"Good morning sir, here is your coffee." He said, placing the cup on the table and offering a polite smile.
"Morning, Mr. Glenn." Mr. Kent greeted not even sparing him a glance. "You are taking minutes in the board meeting today." He continued, still not looking at Nick.
Nick's heart almost skipped a beat. Yes he knew that at one time he would have to take responsibilities directly from Mr. Kent but it just seemed so far fetched, at least not when Ms. May was around.
And of all things, minutes in a board meeting. Welcome nerves, feel at home.
Instead of asking for further explanation, Nick agreed and excused himself.
"He said I have to take minutes for him-" Nick started to say as soon as he walked into their office but he got cut off by Ms. May.
"Yeah for the board meeting at ten. Sorry about that," she shot him a sympathetic smile, knowing too well that he was pretty new to all this.
"But don't you like take minutes for him?" he asked.
"I have a breakfast meeting on his behalf at the same time as the board meeting."
"Oh well I'm screwed." He threw his hands up in a very dramatic way.
"It won't be that bad, I promise." She reassured him. "Just remember everything we went though when I was training you and if you are still not sure, you can go in with a copy of my drafted minutes from a previous meeting."
Nick agreed and went to sit on his desk so he could prepare for the meeting.
On the bright side, going to be close to his boss would be counted progress as he would perhaps find something to share with Sidney. Anything to incriminate the ruthless man with.
With that thought in mind, he kind of looked forward to the meeting.
...
Sidney sighed in exhaustion as she plopped down on the table in the massive kitchen of the mansion.
