Winter break goes by rather quickly, between working at the local thrift store, talking to Nobara, and spending time with your older sister in your shared apartment. Aside from your parents checking in every now and then, your sister saying her greetings and farewells before heading off to work all night, you remain by yourself on break. The other few friends you used to have in town besides Nobara are all doing various holiday celebrations in resorts by Tokyo and Kyoto, taking note of staying far away from the village, addicted to newfound freedom and adulthood.
The boy that you were reluctantly talking to during the fall semester, Yusuke, kept trying to see you after work and take you out for drinks. The one and only one time you took him up on his offer, he mooched off your margarita, talked about himself all night, and asked you to split the bill...again. You really only entertained this get together because you thought that you both got on the wrong foot with each other.
Your gut feeling was right the first time; he's just a weirdo. Normally that doesn't really bother you, but being a weirdo and broke... doesn't work for you.
Needless to say, you and him won't be talking anymore.
You felt kinda bad, because other than his main occupation of being a bum, he seemed to like you a lot and made effort to see you whenever he could. You just didn't see a point in starting something where you plan to leave for Tokyo in the fall, and even if you did, it couldn't be with someone who barely has enough money for the convenience store for themselves and talked more than they listened. Money isn't everything but mooching off others is just a complete turn off. Also you don't like how he talks or dresses himself, so this result was going to be inevitable.
Two weeks after that terrible date with him, you told him to his face how you felt and he surprisingly understood and kept his distance. (he was crying on the inside because he thought you were the only girl that would tolerate him) So once again, you're by yourself. The new year quickly rolls around and you begin to not only work hard at school, but in your song productions as well.
You made enough songs to put out a small EP as a 'thank you' to your followers for over 15k on your anonymous Angelic Enchantress account. You made the pseudonym in middle school for when you were practicing your stage performances and you thought it was super dainty and cute, but now you wished you picked something edgier. What's worse is that now you have too many people who know that NAMW for you to change it to something else, so now you're stuck with it. Although, moments like these inflate your little pop-star ego; happy that people you don't even know from around the world seem to enjoy your talent. Even when your anxiety humbles you, you could feel that stardom is in your future somewhere.
Spring semester seems to end a lot faster than you anticipated, but now you have enough college credits to finish your application to Tokyo Jujutsu University. You sent the last of your transcripts, proud that you got all As and Bs this semester, although Cs wouldn't kill you. It took about two weeks, but on a cool late April morning, your sister kicks down your bathroom door while your taking a shower and tells you that the university sent a letter in the mail. You yell at her for scaring the shit out of you and making you slip on the shower tiles, but she looks like she could care less and tells you to open the package... while you're still bathing.
You reluctantly do so, saying "(S/N)... shouldn't I open this when I'm DRY? So that the water doesn't get the letter all messed up?" Your sister deadpans and shakes her head at you "Does it look like I care? Open the letter before I put that shampoo in your eyes and read it for you!" She means well, but she's also a little quirky herself. Often times you forget that she was your legal guardian and your parents wanted her in charge instead of you.
Opening the letter, you feel a chill down your spine. Your sister looks at you with anticipation, feeling so proud that you actually are going through with your dreams of leaving the city, but also more excited that soon she'll have her old apartment back to herself again.
