The thing that separates men from monsters, at least in my opinion; is struggle. From the earliest point of birth, humans must fight and struggle to hold onto life.

That is how monsters separate themselves, they know no opposition. Monsters can't be born or killed, only created and reverted to a human.

How I desire to transform into a human, or am I to be a monster for all time?

Only hours had passed since the raid upon some desolate, unnamed island. Rocks and Shiki had returned to the boat.
It was a massive black and brown wooden vessel with a big red flag strewn across its sail; the flag's emblem shown a skull with a long toothy smile and coins of red and gold painted around it. This ship was Rocks' very own, and he had dubbed it: The Bloody Savant.

"Have all resources been stripped from the island?"

Shiki nodded his head and screamed out into the sky, alerting his fellow crew mates.

"Let's move out!"

Rocks was the first to board his ship, no others would contest his right to go first. Then one by one, countless men and women began to board; each carried sacks of riches, fruits, meats, and anything else they could find.
This process went quick and without word, it was second nature to this crew of degenerates.

As the crew finished piling onto the vessel, Rocks stood at the bow of the boat, looking out one last time at the painfully dull island.

"Kaido."

Upon the summons of his name, a hulking muscular young man trudged to the front of the deck to his captain. He had long dark hair hanging down to his back, from the crest of his brows were small, pure white horns. He wore a black vest and long black pants. I'm his large hand, he wielded a purple spiked club. The mountainous behemoth stood beside Rocks and looked across the land before them.

"We are finished here... destroy it."

Kaido, who's face was a wrinkled scowl, curved into a wicked grin. The grip he had on his club tightened and his mighty weapon began to spark to life with blue electricity.

"Wait!"

A booming voice came from behind the two.

Rocks turned to face another large, muscular young man. Lucious blond hair hung to his shoulders, he had a long face with chiseled features and he wore a black rag on his head.

"Newgate?"

Rocks questioned his subordinate

Rocks questioned his subordinate. The large man quickly bowed before his much smaller captain, nonverbally apologizing for his outburst before he explained.

"Captain Xebec. We've done this so many times now, I need an answer. Why do you just destroy these islands, why not keep them for yourself? As an emperor-"

Edward Newgate went silent as he looked up and met the stern gaze of Rocks D. Xebec.

"These islands, they are pointless. We are pirates, the ocean is our home."

"Very well, but I fail to see why we take the time to annihilate these empty islands."

"I refuse to allow any who seek to destroy me, the opportunity to take the land I claim as my property."

"But captain, who in the world would challenge you...?"

The entire ship went deathly quiet in apprehension, they all just stared at the intersection between Rocks and Edward. The world and all of time just seemed to freeze over. It was then that Rocks hung his head back and howled out in laughter

"Daaaa hak kah kah kah!!!"

Slowly and unsurely, the crew began to quietly and awkwardly laugh along. Once Rocks' crying laughs began to silence, the rest of the crew followed in tandem. He looked down at Edward with a long, winding grin before conceding.

"You're right Edward. Who in the world would challenge me. I- I suppose I've been holding onto some childish hope. There exists no man who would rise against me- very well; Kaido, you may let this island be."

The band of pirates and stared at their ecstatic leader, it had been some time since they had seen the joy and smile he was known and feared for; they didn't know wether to be glad or terrified. It was then that Rocks raised his hands into the sky and he loudly announced

"Celebrate my comrades, drink, eat, and rest your fills. Let us let the mighty sea guide us to our destiny, just as it always had!"
