Bella 's p.o.v.

Why is Jake always patrolling? He never spends any time with me, though I can hardly complain, seeing as he is trying to save my life. He never sleeps either. There is no point having a half-dead teenage boy looking after me. Even if he is a werewolf. Maybe I'll refuse to talk to him until he gets at least 5 hours of sleep in one day, not just here and there because he has to. No... that would hurt too much. Jake is the only thing stopping me from going back into depression from when.. when He.. left. I still can't even think his name without I  hurting.... I don't think I will ever be able to. 'Stop! You have to stop thinking about him the whole time! It's not good for you!' I told myself. Slowly, I got out of bed, took a hot shower, and changed into a t-shirt and jeans. Alice wouldn't approve. I went downstairs and had breakfast. As I was washing out my bowl, I saw a note stuck on the front of the fridge.

I am at the funeral. I told you last night I was going, but you may have forgotten. I will be back later. Stay safe, and don't go into the woods. That bear, or wolf is still somewhere.
Bye, Charlie.
The funeral. I forgot. Charlie is probably really wrecked at the moment, Harry was one of his best friends. I should be a better daughter. I haven't exactly been supportive of him these last few weeks.

At lunchtime, I made a sandwich and sat outside while finishing Pride and Prejudice. Suddenly, from the middle of the forest, I heard a wolf howl, as if in pain. Jacob!! If Victoria hurt him...! I jumped up and hurtled as fast as I could into the woods. I cracked branches and got facefuls of leaves as I ran towards the continuing sound.

"Jake! Jake!" I called. "Sam? Embry! Quil, Paul Jared?" No reply. I just ran faster. I stumbled on a tree root, and fell.

"Now, now. No need to bow down before me just because I am about to kill you!"

I looked up, slowly. A red haired, pale woman was standing before me. Victoria! I saw, behind her, the rusty brown fur of Jake's wolf body. I gasped, seeing the cuts and bruises forming on his skin. "J-J-Jake?"

"Oh, don't worry about your little were-friend, I'm sure he will be just fine. As for you, though,  I'm not so sure... Where is Edward? And the rest of your dear Cullens? They weren't in the house. So very rude of them to leave without sending us their new address, I must say. I didn't expect you to be left behind. I thought that boy was in love with you. Then again, maybe not... After all, what vampire would be in love with a mere human. Maybe he won't mind if I kill you." She sighed. I was terrified. I feel  numb all over. Lie, said the voice in my head, lie to her!

"They v-visit, a-all the t-t-time. E-Edward will kill you for this!" I stuttered, forcing myself to say his name. She laughed a low, sarcastic laugh.

"Well, where do they stay? I could tell they haven't been here in months from the scents in that mansion of theirs. Many-" She broke off, looking excited. "Oohh. That's a very good idea..."

"What is?" I managed to choke out.

"Well, see honey, I want Edward to hurt for what he did to James, but if I can't hurt him from killing you, I have to find another way. And, even of he doesn't care about you that way, maybe he will be... Guilty. If he brought this on you. He isn't a fan of you becoming immortal, is he? I managed to pick that up from... various people..."

Slowly, the meaning of her words sunk in. She was going to Turn me. This my dream come true. Now I was face to face with it, it didn't seem half as appealing as it had before. Maybe because He wasn't here to enjoy it with me. Suddenly, she pounced. A burning pain filled my right arm. I screamed, but a cold hand covered my mouth, and said something along the lines of, "we can't have that, can we?" I was swept of my feet, and - Verena? Violet? Victoria?- sped through the trees to a familiar  setting. For some reason, I felt as if I hate  this place, but  loved  it at the same time... The fiery agony spread to my chest, and head, and my legs, and other arm, stretching right down to my fingertips.

"Arrghhhhhh!" Someone screamed again. Was it me? I remembered Charlie's warning not to go in the woods. Suddenly, I blacked  out.
