Bella 's p.o.v.

Fire. I was on fire. Why was I on fire? Oohh... I got bitten by a vampire. Probably Edward. Or maybe Carlisle. Jacob won't be hap- Jacob! It wasn't one of them that bit me, it was Victoria! And she lured me in by hurting Jake! Was he ok? Where was Victoria? I will kill her! She hurt Jacob! Jake. I missed him. PAIN! The fire was rekindling! Or maybe I just forgot about it... Anyway, it wasn't as strong as before.... Blackness...........

When I finally woke up, I felt the pain again  but it had.. retreated... I couldn't feel it in my arms or legs at all! Maybe it would be over soon. Slowly, the pain lessened, and lessened until I couldn't feel it at all.

Once, when I was  lying on the couch I had been placed on, I heard laughter. But not the happy kind. The kind that was in all those movies when the villain gets what he or she wants. Also, I think I saw a flash of red hair through the window. Victoria.

After a while the pain faded completely. I lifted my hand slowly, and when nothing happened, I sat up. Surprised, I looked around. I could see everything! The dust particles on the table across the hallway. The drip of moisture sliding down the side of a vase on the coffee table. The rusty brown stain on the carpet that looked like blood. Blood! My throat ached, and I remembered  what I now was.. but I must not forget who I was. And where I was. I had to remember. Only animals. If the Cullens could do it, then so could I! I climbed off the couch, and went in the opposite direction to the blood stain. It was the Cullens' house.. That stain must have been from my birthday. My eighteenth. The one  that made them leave. I don't hate them anymore. I don't love them either... any of  them. Or at least not as much as I used to. I opened the window and  jumped, landing on both feet, with more finesse than I thought possible. I took of running towards the forest, admiring the things around me as I went, the opening chrysanthemums in the flowerbeds, the bright green grass soft under my bare feet. Everything looked... as if it was in HD. Bright, vibrant colours everywhere. It was amazing. Suddenly, I caught the smell of a deer, prancing through the woodlands.. It felt like there was a voice  in my head, but I couldn't tell what they were saying. It sounded like, "Take me, not a human." But  that made no sense. I held my breath, crouched, and then pounced: arms outstretched, eyes sharp, and fangs at the ready. I sunk my teeth into its neck and drank my fill. I stood, feeling a little dazed at what I had just done. I walked on for a little while. Once, I caught the scent of a human, and a terrible sense of longing filled me. But I knew that I couldn't kill a human. They would be disappointed in me. I didn't want to be a monster. I held my breath and ran, back to the house, up the stairs, and into Carlisle's study. I took a few deep breaths, although they were unneeded, and opened my eyes. Straight across the room was  mirror. I gazed in awe at the beautiful woman in the glass, with long, shiny, dark brown hair and high, arched cheekbones. Red eyes shone next to her pale face and perfect  nose. That's me, I thought. That is what I look like now. I walked out  the door of the study, still stunned at my reflection. Across the hall from where I stood, I saw a painting. Three pale, old fashioned men  with a fourth stood slightly behind them: Carlisle. I remembered Edward talking about them. The Volturi. The 'Royal Family' of vampires. They kept the secret, and if  someone else didn't, they would hunt that vampire down. From what I could remember, they had a sort of guard that did all the dirty work. Suddenly, it hit me. I needed a home. Somewhere  with other vampires, so humans wouldn't be in danger. I needed to learn the laws and secrets behind what I had  become. Why not go to the ones who upheld the law in the first place?
