Chapter 17

  Bella 's p.o.v.

  Over the next hour, I called as many birds and insects to us as possible and asked them to help. By dawn, we had a long list of vampires we were expecting, including:

  -the Amazonian coven: Kachiri, Senna, and Zafrina, 3

  - the Denali coven: Eleazar, Carmen, Irina, Kate, and Tanya.

-the Irish coven: Maggie, Siobhan and Liam.       -some of the American Nomads- Garrett, Mary, Peter, Randall, and Charlotte.

  -the European Nomads: Charles and Makenna.

  -the Egyptian coven: Benjamin, Kebi, Amun and  Tia.

  Carlisle seemed rather distressed during the sending off of the messengers, and I asked him what was the matter. "It seems... Wrong, to ask my friends to put their lives in danger, just so we are safe..." Edward heard this too, and came over to reassure him.

  "They have a choice, whether or not they will fight. And hopefully  it won't come to that. Maybe all we need to do is intimidate the Volturi enough for them to leave us alone," he suggested in a somewhat questioning tone. "They won't want a fight, imagine if Jane or Alec or Demetri were killed." He comforted.

  "Demetri?" I questioned. "He was on the mission in Italy. He probably won't be there tomorrow. Is he powerful?"

  "Yes, one of the most powerful gifted ones out there." Carlisle smiled. "With your's, Kate's, Zafrina's and Benjamin's powers, we might just have a chance tomorrow."

  "Bella?" I heard Ella say, "I have a few more names to add to the list. Most of these people were in the guard, but left because they hated it so much.  Th Volturi couldn't really do much without it seeming like they thought they owned us all. There are six. All powerfully gifted. Maria, who can teleport and Jordan, who can make more copies of himself. The there's Lily, who can move things with her mind,  Jamie, who can manipulate time. Dijila, can turn invisible, and finally, Sonoma who can kind of.... change density. Like she could  make herself so light she could fly, or pass through walls. Or make herself so heavy that... I don't know, something happens. The first four left when Maria's younger brother was killed by one of the guard because they thought he was an immortal child. I don't know why the other two left, but most only leave the guard if they really don't like the Volturi, so I'm sure they will come."

  "Ok, thank you, Ella. That's great. 28 vampires, not including us, which would make 37!" I counted up. When we finished sending the birds, I collapsed on the sofa. Ella had disappeared already, and Carlisle was just leaving, so when I opened my eyes, I found it was just Edward and myself. I shifted uncomfortably and let some of my hair fall in front of my face.

  "Bella, I am so, so, sorry for what I did back in Forks. I thought you would be safer, clearly not, but I did do what I thought was right. I will never forgive myself for leaving you. I need to know. Do you still love me? Because I love you more than anything else in this planet. No, this universe! Because you are my whole universe." He pleaded, desperately.

  "I don't know, Edward. I guess I do kind of, but I mean.... You already left me once Edward," I finalized with a sigh. Edward had been looking down at his hands, fiddling with a small piece of wire until the moment I said 'yes'. His eyes snapped up to meet mine, he smiled his crooked smile- the one that normally gave my heart a work out- and leaned over, so, so gently, and touched his cold lips to mine.

  "Oh, I knew you to would make up!! You are  just too in love not to!" Squealed a happy voice. "You are just so cute together," Alice sang. I turned to see her coming towards us with Ella in tow. "Ella would like to try hunting our way, so I suggested we go now. Would you like to come with us?"

  "Okay," I grumbled, "Alice, we were having a moment!" All three chuckled.

  "Bella, we are immortal vampires! We have forever." Edward reminded me. Forever sounded good...

  "Okay. We should hunt then. Watch and learn, Ella. Watch and learn."
