Annabel felt like she was going to throw up. It was literally people she knew and had been familiar with to a point but she was still scared to death. She took a shot of tequila, the bottle of Don Julio was on a table that said Stevie Nicks on it. She knew she probably shouldn't have opened it, but she decided that she really wanted some of it. She wasn't an alcoholic by any means. She only every really had a shot of tequila before she went on stage and the occasional Margarita. Once the shot had gone down smoothly she looked in the mirror and she tried to pep herself up.
She was wearing a cap sleeve dress. It was Navy blue and with three buttons between the breasts. It was plain and simple landing at her mid thigh. Her hair was down her back and she was wearing a pair of medium brown platform booties
"They're ready for you...Stevie's a little pissy about it though. Fair warning." Cory Buckingham opens up her little closet dressing room door and smiles at her. The dressing room wasn't anything fancy. The big ones having gone to the members of Fleetwood Mac. It was more a closet really, but it was a place for her to get ready.
"Right, okay...wish me luck." She sighs. She gathers her band from the bar. Just some middle aged men who played for fun that offered to back her up after she had done a solo acoustic set for about a month with very little response. They meet up in the hallway and then they do a little huddle before they go on stage.
"Guys, I don't know what's going to happen...but this just might be our big break. I never wanted to be famous, and no matter what happens, this might be the only tour we'll ever go on...but at least we've gone a tour." Annabel sighs.
Her bass player nods and then they enter the stage. it's quiet and awkward there were tables where chairs should be and she could see her dad and Mick. John 's eyes had bulged out of his head in shock and there she was...Stevie Nicks, scowling. Lori, Sharon, and Karen next to her. Lori's eyes went just as wide as John's but then she sat up at attention and slightly leaned forward in anticipation. Lindsey nodded, Stevie's back was to him, and then she took a breath.
"Hey everybody...um I'm Annabel. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. Um, yeah so before I start singing, I want to give you a little background on the song.I wrote it about my mom. It's slower, but I want to showcase my vocals not commercial music. We have three prepared if you want to hear something more commercial but, we wanted to start with this one. I'm a firm believer of raw talent and I think this song shows it. So...here we go..." She silently counts her band off, by turning around and holding up fingers and then they start the music.
Steady as a needle dropping on a vinyl
Neon singer with a jukebox title full of heartbreak
Thirty-three, forty-five, seventy-eight
When it hurts this good you gotta play it twice
Another viceAll dressed up in a pretty black label
Sweet salvation on a dining room table
Waiting on me
Where the numb meets the lonelyIt's gone before it ever melts the ice
Another vice, another call
Another bed I shouldn't crawl out of
At 7 AM with shoes in my hand
Said I wouldn't do it, but I did it again
And I know I'll be back tomorrow night, ohI wear a town like a leather jacket
When the new wears off, I don't even pack it
If you need me
I'll be where my reputation don't proceed meMaybe I'm addicted to goodbyes
Another vice, another town
Where my past can't run me down
Another life, another call
Another bed I shouldn't crawl out of
At 7 AM with shoes in my hand
Said I wouldn't do it, but I did it again
And I know I'll be gone tomorrow night
Mm, another viceStanding at the sink now, looking in a mirror
Don't know where I am or how I got here
Well, the only thing that I know how to find
Is another viceMm, another vice
Yes, another vice
Ooh, another vice
Another vice
Another viceAnother vice"I don't need to hear anything else." Mick says after the music dies out.
"I don't either..." John smiles. They had heard her sing before so this wasn't new to them. She still owned the stage like Stevie Nicks. And she was still a hell of a good singer.
"When did you write that song?" Lindsey asks leaning back in his chair.
"Oh gosh um, Maybe October of 2010."
"There's a story behind it. Tell me the story...Song writers need to be able to tell their stories through their music and I know there was a story there, but what is the story." Stevie chimes in.
"Um, My dad raised me...My mom wasn't around. I finally found out who she was when I wrote it. I don't know her personally but from stories and pictures, I just saw a poor soul who was struggling a lot." Annabel bull shits an excuse. John, Mick, and Lindsey know it's not the truth but Stevie didn't know and she didn't want to outright blurt that she wrote the song about Stevie Nicks.
"I think she should go on tour with us. Maybe open a couple times a month. Not the whole tour only on like specific dates. Like Mick had suggested." Lindsey smiles.
"I'm not happy about it...Fleetwood Mac NEVER has an opener but by the looks of it, I'm out voted so welcome to the tour." Stevie sighs "The girls and I are going for lunch...don't know when we'll be back."
After the group knows that Stevie is gone. Annabel hops off the stage and joins her father and his buddies at the table.
"She seems prickly." Annabel states.
"She's having a bad day, having a hard time hitting her notes, and getting her marks." Lindsey rubs her back in assurance. "She's not like that all the time, and when you guys start spending more time together it'll be different."
"And, she could hear herself in that song and she didn't like it. That song is deep and talks about excess. Which, you know is why she and Lindsey didn't raise you. That's why." John also points out.
"Yeah, yeah she did. But it was a really good song...I actually want to record it Belle. Make a demo. You never have to put it out in the world but I want to play with it. I have a good idea in my head." Lindsey nods.
"Well I wrote it about her. So..." Annabel shrugs.
"It's a really good song."
