"𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝. 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬."
"The truth?" I ask puzzled, Mr. Amorette nods.
"Yes." He says simply with a soft smile, looking at me like I'm a afraid and wounded animal. "But first," he starts as his gaze grows hard and he holds up his pointer finger, "we need to address your little stunt from yesterday."
I scoff, "I don't think any of what I do is your concern." All eyes around me visibly darken, including Mrs. Amorettes, which startles me. It feels like she's supposed to be on my side.
I feel like a wounded rabbit being surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves. Mrs. Amorette places her hands firmly on my shoulders from behind, I can tell she's keeping me rooted in place so that I can't run away as Mr. Amorette stalks towards me. "Oh, but on the contrary. Everything you do is my concern. I am your legal guardian after all," he smirks as my mouth opens in shock.
Twisting myself out of Mrs. Amorettes arms, I back away from the two, "how? No- you're lying," I try to convince them and myself. My heart beat picks up as I start to panic and pain consumes my head.
"Sweetheart," Malakai's voice sounds from behind me as his rough hands come up to my shoulders, rubbing them soothingly. "Try to calm down for me," he whispers softly into my ear, but it feels like I'm under water. Like I can hear what he says but can't comprehend it. His right hand comes across me, cupping my left cheek and turning my head to the side so that we are face to face. "You're okay, breathe," he makes a point to dramatically breathe so that I can visually see his rhythm and follow him.
After what feels like hours, I finally do. "Let's get you sat down so we can discuss everything, alright?" He asks and I nod in response, feeling captivated by him and obedient. Something about his presence makes me feel safe and relaxed, like I can finally go a moment without worrying and just let myself be.
Taking my hand, he leads me over to a large living room and sits down on a black couch before pulling me into his lap. Instantly I attempt to jump up, not wanting him to feel how heavy I am. "No." He demands as he pulls me tight to him, "stay."
"Ugh, you're disgusting." Felix mocks him from the other side of the room. He's leaning against one of the multiple doorways with his arms crossed.
"Like you don't do that same thing to Miles," Malakai retaliates. Felix's eyes widen and he looks over at me nervously, seeming to be trying to read my thoughts. But I don't give anything away.
"That's different," he mutters and looks away.
"Yeah, you being touchy with your boyfriend is different from me being touchy with my girl-"
"Shut the fuck up!" Alexander shouts, cutting him off. "Adeline, get off his lap right now!" He demands and points a finger to the other side of the couch while stomping towards us.
I try to move off but Malakai's hands keep me secured in his lap. "She stays," he bites back at him.
The two hold intense eye contact for a moment before ultimately Alexander scoffs and walks over to a arm chair and plopping into it. This surprises me, Alexander doesn't seem like the type to just back down so easily. My head whips over my shoulder to see Malakai still staring Alexander before his eyes shoot over to mine, a smirk grows on his face while a hand comes up to lightly rake through my hair once before settling on my hip again.
"Uh, I'm only sixteen." I say before gathering the strength to push myself off his lap.
"But you're mine," he tries to reach for me but I quickly scoot out of reach.
"Fuck off!" I smack his hands away while he gets to his knees on the couch trying to grab my flailing body.
We wrestle for a few minutes and at one point we fall to the floor, him trying to bring me to his body and me trying to push him away. "Stay still- hey- ow!" I bite his arm and hold to to his mouth. Now the roles are reversed. He's standing up trying to push me off him while I'm latched onto his front by my legs with my hands holding his forearm to my mouth. "Someone help me get this thing off, she's drawing blood now!" He yells panicked.
Laughs are heard around the room before hands grab under my armpits and pull me off him, a deep bite bark left in my wake. "Put your filthy hands on me one more time Malakai Ellery Dexter! I dare you!" I scream at him and his eyes go wide as I am dropped from the hands holding me up.
With a loud thump I land on the floor. "Fuckkk," I draw out rolling onto my side, holding my stomach in pain
"I never told you my middle or last name," I hear from in front of me. Looking up Malakai is standing in front of my with teary eyes. "You know!" He exclaims.
"What? What are you talking about?" I ask in confusion, he looks conflicted.
"How did you know my full name?" He asks as I shakily stand up.
I furrow my brows and look down, "I-I don't know," I look to the side at everyone watching us, "it just came out I guess..."
"Fuck!" He screams as he kicks the couch before storming over to me and grabbing my shoulders roughly. "Why can't you just fucking remember? I can't take this anymore," he pleads.
"Kai, let me go." I firmly tell him. "Let me go! Let me go! Let me go! You can't take this anymore?!! I can't take this anymore! Everyone is keeping shit from me and I'm going crazy from it! Either tell me what you want or I'm gone-"
"We're your family."
