"How have your studies been going, Killian?"
"Well—! Ah, erm... besides McGonagall's science lesson yesterday..."
Dumbledore chuckled, "Yes. I heard about that."
...
Flashback:
"That is, Mr. Draglore, incorrect. There is no planet called.... Magnesium."
"Uh... Oh—! Uranium. It was Uranium!"
McGonagall could feel her second migraine of the day knocking at the edges of her skull.
"That is also... incorrect. Mr. Draglore, those are both elements... Did you, perhaps, mean Uranus?" McGonagall asked.
"Ahem.... Mm. Yep. That's the one." said Killian, tone slightly off.
McGonagall sighed.
"Honestly, did you study your planets at all?"
Killian decided to leave that question unanswered.
"Alright. Here's what we're going to do," McGonagall picked up a piece of chalk, "I'm going to draw the solar system. Then, I'll give you the names of the planets, and you can tell me what order they go in."
Killian tried to suppress his sigh as McGonagall began drawing on the board. He looked longingly out the window; it was such a nice day.
It didn't take long for Killian to get lost in a daydream of an upcoming Quidditch match.
"Oh—! Goodness—!"
Killian's eyes darted back to the front of the room to where McGonagall had shouted, and she appeared to be..... on fire?
Bright flames crawled up the back of her robes as she hurriedly reached for her wand.
Jumping up, Killian recited:
"Aguamenti!"
A clear jet of water burst forth from the tip of his wand, thoroughly soaking his teacher— but successfully putting out the fire.
Minerva could only gasp and shield her eyes as she was doused head to toe.
When Killian was well and truly finished, he felt quite pleased with himself.... though McGonagall looked anything but pleased.
"I don't know where you learned a charm meant for sixth years, but I hope you don't think I'll be commending you for it." McGonagall said, shock in her voice.
Killian knew that tone well enough to tell that he was about to be in a lot of trouble.
"I suppose you think it's funny to set fire to my robes, Draglore?"
Killian blanched.
"M-me? I didn't set fire to them—! One moment I looked over and they were just—"
"And you expect me to believe they set fire on their own accord?" Minerva asked in disbelief.
"Did you think that starting a fire would somehow get you out of class?!" McGonagall asked, volume even, but pitch rising.
"What—? No—"
"Well, you are certainly right," McGonagall huffed, "Class is over. And by this time next week I expect you to have read the entirety of chapters 7, 8, AND 9. And I will need a 10 page essay over what you learned."
Killian nearly fell out of his chair.
"In just a week?!"
"If you have the time to be setting fires and learning charms, you have the time for an essay." McGonagall scowled.
