Love is not "love" when it's not hurt because no matter how much you love someone, there is no guarantee of the pleasure of having them love you back.

Jennie was a typical young woman, living on her own in the city. Her parents were in her hometown, calling her almost every night to make sure she was okay when she was in college. She was glad about that. However, after she graduated, her parents called less.

It made her feel lonely, sometimes.

But, that didn't mean they didn't care anymore. It meant they had someone or something else to get more worried about. Her brothers, who were twins and in need of money to continue their education after high school in the next few years were their new responsibilities.

She knew her parents cared for the three of them, so she tried her best to not get into any trouble in college. She was quiet, and kind of a nerd back then.

She didn't date anyone, partly because no one was really interested in a nerd like her.

Introverted. Shy. Smart. Still, there was no one.

Not that Jennie complained because she didn't get intrigued easily by anyone. But, one particular girl caught her attention since the first day of her freshman year.

But, they never dated.

"Excuse me," Jennie looked at the girl she bumped into as she tried to pick up her papers that fell onto the ground.

The girl, however, seemed angry even though she didn't get any damaged or hurt at all. "Look! You stupid girl. Look where you go next time, will you?"

Jennie was embarrassed at how she was treated. This was her first day, and she was going to make some friends, not enemies. "Sorry." She glanced anywhere but the girl's face. Despite the fact that she was not at fault here, Jennie couldn't help but apologize.

Then, she felt a hand shoving her backward, but before she landed on the ground, a pair of strong arms caught her just in time.

"What's wrong, Somi?" The voice of the person who caught her asked.

She was back on her feet and tempted to look at her savior's face. "Thanks." Then, that was when she realized she was, in fact, intrigued by this particular person.

Love, even.

Stupid word.

She couldn't just suddenly believe in love like that. Her whole life was spent alone in the room with books in her hands. Now, being in love seemed unrealistic in Jennie's view.

"She pushed me first, honey." The girl said.

Her savior looked at her with no expression at all before turning away. "She was new here, I think. Don't prey on her."

The girl scoffed. "Come on, Lisa. Don't play sweetheart here. If you want to get into some girl's pants, come with me. Don't devalue yourself and take this shit with you."

"I am not shit."

The girl laughed. "Then, who are you?"

"I am a human being. I have feelings. I have emotions. I don't-"

"Shut up! What a nerd." The girl laughed and walked away like nothing had happened just a moment ago.

Jennie looked up at her savior's face again. "Thank you." The girl just nodded and walked away too. The way she walked and everything about her was shouting coldness confined in confidence. Jennie smiled. She liked that a lot.

Since the day they met, Jennie went to school only to hope to see her savior's face. Though they never talked afterward, Jennie just thought that sitting behind or in front of her was enough.

Lisa Manoban.

At least, Jennie knew her name. The girl rarely talked to anyone in her class. No emotions. Nothing. Just a pair of green eyes that Jennie seemed to not be able to shake off. She was mysterious, and Jennie liked mystery.

A few months into school, Jennie always found time to be around Lisa in hope to find something that could make her stop her fast heartbeats whenever she was around. She walked behind her, sat behind her, completely obsessed with the blonde. She didn't know why because she always thought love was bullshit, and whatever she felt right now, it could be justified by the fact that Lisa was not a good person.

She was cold, hanging out with bad boys though the girl was smart enough to pass whatever examination there was at school.

That was one of the reasons Jennie was attracted to her.

The girl was smart. She was taller, much skinnier than her, but for whatever reason Lisa was both physically and mentally attractive to Jennie.

It was not that Jennie wanted to be interested in Lisa. The girl never showed interest. She slept with every beautiful girl she could put her finger on, but Jennie. She glanced a few times at Jennie's way, but besides that, no talking at all.

She doubted if she had confessed to her, Lisa would have reciprocated.

"Jennie?" Her friend called out. "You still think about her." Chaeyoung was examining her like she used to. She was a friend she got after Lisa left. But, she basically knew everything about Lisa. Jennie talked a lot about her.

She looked down. "I should have told her."

"You are not meant to be."

"I know." Jennie laughed. Her face flushed with embarrassment. Her knight in shining armor just completely disappeared after they graduated.

Then, both of them looked outside, distracted by a commotion across her apartment. "What's going on?"

"I don't know. Usual gangsters beating each other up."

Jennie was stunned, hearing the word 'gangster'. She hadn't told her yet that Lisa was a gangster. Some kind of a bad boy in college. Just the mention of something related to her made Jennie feel like everything was in slow motion.

But, when a woman in a motorbike came into view with black sunglasses on, Jennie's mouth dropped. Her eyes got wider.

The world practically stopped moving around her. She couldn't believe her own eyes. What kind of dream this was that appeared so real? Then, it hit her.

It was real.

"What's wrong?"

"She's back."
