When Maddox was scared, he would hide under his bed covers, right next to his mother, holding him as he would fall asleep right next to her shoulder. His mother would then gently set him down, kiss him on the forehead, then head off to bed.
But as Maddox would get older, he would find himself being scared less and less, to the point where horror movies don't affect him no more, or even scary stories. But he missed his mother holding him in her arms.
One night, Maddox decided to start thinking of a way to have his mother hold him again as she once did. He didn't just want to ask her, that's embarrassing. He'll just have to pretend to be scared. But at what? At this point, his mother practically knows he's not scared of anything.
For days and days he thought of just what he could get to 'scare' him.
Until one night, a dark and windy night in the middle of Fall. Maddox was watching TV while his mother made dinner, when he heard something outside.
It was a loud high-pitched screeching sound. One that only Maddox would only hear in action films, a sound of a car's brakes scratching on the road.
When Maddox finally looked outside, he saw a white SUV speed right into another car, he didn't get to see the car for long, for the next thing he knew; BOOM. The sound that seemingly echoed through his ears. And one that caught his mom's attention.
As Maddox watched, he saw that the white SUV hit a gray car he didn't know the name of. Almost like a cartoon, the white SUV bounced off of the gray car and started headed towards the window.
Maddox heard himself gasp as he froze staring at the swerving vehicle. And before he knew it; KREEK. The white SUV hit the houses wall and shattered the window.
Maddox saw a shard of the window fly straight at him, but before he could react, the shard stabbed his left cheek.
He didn't feel pain at first, surprisingly he felt pain on his stomach because a small shard hit it, but didn't stab it. But as his Mom ran into the room, she started yelling hysterically, to Maddox's surprise. He thought she'd be more calm about this, for some odd reason.
"Oh my god!" Was the only words Maddox's mom could muster before calling 911. He didn't know why she called 911, he felt okay, that was until the pain started settling in. That's when he felt the worst pain of his entire life. He felt his face, and found out that not only did that shard stab his left cheek, it also stabbed his lip, and he could feel his gums bleeding. He tried to touch the shard, or maybe pull it out, but his tears started flooding, and that only seemed to make the pain worst, as it was all going into his stab wound.
When the ambulance arrived, he saw a few paramedics try to get into the white SUV. But he never was able to see the person driving the vehicle. He hoped they were okay, he knew he wasn't.
He was taken into one of the many ambulances that arrived. And he was taken away far from his home. He hoped that he would be brought home later that night, to maybe get a warm embrace from his Mom, but he never came home that night, his Mom didn't visit either. He was placed into emergency surgery to try and get that shard out of his face without dealing more damage. It felt like hours as he felt his face being pushed and pulled and stabbed with tools. As they finally took the glass shard out, it was covered in dark blood, almost the color of black.
As Maddox saw the size of the glass shard, he felt himself swallow as hard as he could, and then fainted.
