Earth 824's Green Lantern Hal Jordan

In Brightest Day

We pick up with Hal cruising down the road as he wraps a birthday present. He almost crashed, but not to worry. He made it to the birthday, it's his nephew, William "Billy" Jordan.

Everyone:

Happy birthday to you! (you know the chant)

Everyone is interrupted when Billy screams:

Billy:

Uncle Hal!!!

He gets up and hugs him. Hal waves at everyone nervously as he hugs his nephew. After doing the song again, Hal's brother confronts him.

Jim:

You know showing up earlier would've been nice.

Hal:

Have you seen the traffic out there! Miles long.

Jim:

You know I'd believe you if that wasn't always your excuse for everything.

Hal:

Look, I'm here alright! That's what matters!

Jim:

You know he idols you right. The least you could do is arrive early.

Hal:

I could've gone straight back to work, but I chose to come here because I care about that kid, more than anything in the world.

After talking with his brother Hal heads over to his nephew's room and hands him his present, he loves it. After getting the gift (btw the gift is a model fighter jet) Hal and his nephew share a bonding moment. Here we see Hal caring for the kid by not letting him make the same decisions he made in his life. Hal let him choose his true passion of being an artist instead of following Hal's footsteps in becoming a test pilot.

After the party Hal gets an angry call from his boss, Carol Ferris. When they were children she had a crush on Hal, but not wanting to be distanced from Hal, she tried joining him in his adulthood journey. Eventually her feelings died down and she realized that if Hal wasn't interested she shouldn't wait for him to be. Instead of being with Hal, she decided to be better than him out of anger.

Carol:

HAL! Where the f#ck are you!?

Hal:

I was at my nephews birthday party, chill out.

Hal drives to Ferris Airlines, the same company that got his father killed. After following in his father's footsteps, Hal was led back to Ferris Airlines to work as a test pilot, the same as his father before him. With the intention of completing what his father couldn't, Hal is assigned a mission, but not until after being scolded for being extremely late.

Hal:

Sir, I just needed to be there for my nephew.

Willard Ferris:

Hal, (Wraps his arm around Hal's shoulder) you know I love you like a son, but your work always comes first no matter what.

Carol, listening to the conversation, looks down in disappointment. Willard is her father if you don't know and one of Hal's bosses.

Willard:

Your father knew that, but since he didn't follow it look what happened to him.

Hal makes a fist.

Willard

Tell me Hal would you want to make the same mistakes your father made.

Hal visibly looks pissed, but manages to hide his anger from Willard.

Hal:

No sir.

Willard:

Good, then get your ass in a jet and start flying. The crew is waiting for you.

Willard walks out. Carol gives Hal a minute to let his anger out in the locker room.

Carol:

Don't take it personally he does that with everyone.

Hal:

Carol no offense but your father is a dick.

Carol:

What he said back there... that was below the belt, I'm sorry.

Hal:

Don't apologize for him.

Carol:

Then let's go. The team is waiting for us.
