I walk into a store. I grab a couple bottles of water and put them into my bag. I walk out and something jumps on me. I fall to the ground.
One of the monsters is on top of me. It growls and moves its mouth up and down.
Poor person. They are long gone now. I place my hands on its neck. I struggle to push it off me.
But then it's head gets chopped off with a long sword. The thing falls off of me and I see who did it. It's the boy. The boy in the car. He holds out his hand. I take it and he helps me up.
"So...you almost got attacked by a runner Huh?" He says casually.
"A runner? Is that what you call them?" I smirk.
"Well yeah, they run. What do you call them?"
"Monsters." I smirk.
He laughs.
"Nice sword you got there." I say.
"Thanks."
"I thought you were going to rescue your sister."
"I was, and I got out to get stuff at some stores and saw you in trouble."
"Well I could of killed it myself, without your help." I start to walk away from him.
"What is your problem? You won't let anyone help you. You know, you can't just do things on your own now. Your gonna need help."
"I'm fine on my own, thanks."
"Whatever." He sighs.
"Every person I come near for help, dies. Because of me!" I snap.
"That's just guilt. Nothing is anyone's fault. It's theirs."
"Who's?"
"The runners. They're the ones who started most of this mess."
"Yeah well I wanna know what started the whole disease."
"Yeah, I mean we're all infected. Every single one of us. I don't get it."
"Wait, what?"
"When we die, we turn into one of those things."
My sister.
I start to walk away.
"What are you doing? Where are you even gonna go?"
"I'm trying to find my family. That's what."
"How are you gonna find them? They're gone. Everyone's gone. They're dead."
I turn around and walk straight up to him.
"DON'T YOU DARE SAY MY PARENTS ARE DEAD!" I yell in his face.
"Sorry. But they most likely are. You know it, you just don't want to admit it." He says.
"Shut up! Just shut up! There's these red x mark signs and if you follow them, you find the people who left our city, and my parents might be there, and your parents might be there." I explain.
"Red x marks? We aren't hunting for a treasure chest."
"The people who left, left those signs for us to follow...to know where they are. Don't you want to be where the people are?"
"Yeah, but my sister is more important right now. And, I did see one of those x marks somewhere."
"Really? Where?"
"Ill show you." He walks into his car and I get in too. He starts to drive down the street.
