Alejandro was running.
Just running.
He needed to run faster or they would kill him.
But why? He was just a young man working to survive.
He hadn't even had to chance to fall in love.
To have a family.
"There is one! Vamos!"
The sounds of the horse getting closer caused his heart to race even faster.
Move faster Alejandro.
FASTER.
SLICE
One of the soldiers caught up to him and sliced his back, causing Alejandro to fall in pain.
He screamed but not from pain. He screamed from how helpless he was. How weak he actually was.
He prayed to Dios that if not him, save the others who got away. Protect them.
Why would he pray for other's safety? Because he understands that they are also trying to survive.
Just like him, they also want to live.
As the soldier raised his sword to land the final blow, a bright light had enveloped Alejandro and caused a big explosion of light to occur.
This pushed back the soldier, causing him to become blind from the bright light.
Alejandro began to float as the light began to sink into his skin.
Slowly, he was left standing on the ground.
As if like a child, he stumbled his way to the forest.
He needed to flee while the soldier was still agonizing from the pain.
He stared at his hands and arms. He even felt his back for the wound but it had vanished.
He had no time to process as the show of light had caught the other soldiers attention.
Alejandro ran and ran deeper into the forest until he had become exhausted and collapsed.
When he awoken, he was in a bed with a roof over his head.
He sat up, looking around the room as a woman walked in.
She was shocked to see him awake but still approached the bed as she set down a basin of water.
"Buenos dias. You're finally awake."
She smiled at the man.
These two would became husband and wife within the next year.
During this year, Alejandro had discovered that he could control light.
He could create sunshine for the crops to grow, even when it was dark.
He could increase the heat of the light, creating hot water when the boiler wasn't working.
He could redirect the sunlight if it became too much for them.
But the most wonderful of all, he could do the same for the darkness.
He used these gifts to help the town he and his amor lived in.
He lived there for thirty years, having a child named Yelena.
He lived to be 58 years before passing away peacefully along with his lover.
Oddly, his child did not gain his gift, for it was believed he died with it.
The child, Yelena, had her own family, a husband and child.
It was peace for the Rojas family for a time until...
Soldiers once again attacked the town.
Coincidentally, the town was the same one that Abuela Alma Madrigal lived in.
Fleeing with the people, the Rojas family ended up living in Encanto when Abuela Madrigal gained her gift near the riverbed.
This was the story of how the Rojas family came to be.
"This is where my powers come from."
