summer of wonder

chapter one

Okay so maybe this was a little wrong.. but I kinda liked it..

Im Leilani Haoa and I'm 14
Today would be my first day of summer camp and Camp Oakwood..for the year because i've been going here ever since I was 6.

Me and my best friend, Sophia walked into the camp and wave goodbye to my mom. She sheds a tear like every year and pulls out of the drop off parking lot. We tug our luggage into the large arches of the camp that said
"Oakwood".
Every yet it felt so nostalgic remembering my first time coming. The fresh air, The huge trees towering over the forest, and all the people gathering together from different places just to be here in the great open forests.
"Soph, do you know what cabin we're in this year?" I said while dragging our heavy luggage to the sign up table. "Hmmm, well we were in wolf last last year, and fox last year so i'm guessing bear."
We get over to the sign in and  look for our names on the cabin lists. "W-what we're in eagle.." Me and Sophia stare at each other in shock.
Eagle is practically the best but worst cabin you can be in.. It's a boys and girls cabin.
"OMG YES WERE IN EAGLE" Sophia screams.
"SOPH! Eagle is not good so you know how many hookups happen in that cabin?!".
"Well that's what makes its fun!" Sophia jumps in excitement dropping her luggage.

I tug her arm and walk over to our cabin pushing confused kids out the way to get in.
We push open the door to see two boys sitting on a bed looking at there phones.
"Hey.." I said quietly. "HEYY!" Sophia says.
They look up at both me and Sophia. My heart dropped "No way this is happening.." Giovanni Diaz, my ex. I should have recognized
that warm skin tone and gold chain from anywhere.
We stare at each other frozen. Sophia pulls me by the arm over to our bunk.
"Girl..thats Alex" I say with a stutter. "No duh!!" she whispers in my ear"

Me and Gio used to date in middle school. Everyone knew about us and we were on top of the world. Until  I looked at his phone and saw that he was texting my ex best friend, Bella. She flirted with him on Snapchat..and he let her. The day I found this out it broke my heart and the next day I broke up with him. I cried for hours and hours and I didn't even go to school the next day. And I haven't talked to him since..

We get up and unpack our clothes and set up our toiletries in the bathroom. I walk back into the bedroom trying not to make eye contact with Gio.
"Hey.." Gio says softly
UGHHH! I didn't want to say anything but..that voice.. I can't resist.
"Hey" I say in a low voice
He walks over to my bed and sits down near me

"Ya know this camp is so magical..It's like crazy things can happen..It's like euphoric feeling every time you wake up in the morning and realize that your here.. and every time you look and everyone in this camp sonder overcomes you.."
"I didn't know you could be so deep.." I said shocked
"Me..me neither "
We look into each others eyes.
*DING DONG*
"Time for dinner" I shake that stupid smile off my face. We walk over to the mess hall and I meet Sophia at the door. We zoom through the crowd of campers talking at the door. We run onto the line to make sure we get dinner first. "Ooooo, mac and cheese!!" Sophia says excitedly. We grab or tray and walk over to a table.
"OKAYYYY SOOO SPILL!"
"Spill? Spill what?"
"GIRL YOU KNOW! YOU, GIO, ALONE!!! IN EAGLE CABIN!" She takes a bite of her food
"Girl, nothing happened" I said quietly gesturing her to be quiet.
"Ma'am, two ex's one room.. anything could happen.."
I roll my eyes and go back to eating but what Alex was saying earlier was just so beautiful and I still couldn't believe GIOVANNI DIEZ, aka the guy who mistook a tampon for a vape

after dinner:

After dinner me and Soph go to the first campfire for the first night of camp. We go to sit on a log bench and we decide to sit in front of Gio and his friends.

"MARSHMALLOWS!!"
Alice, a camp counselor said shaking a large bag of jumbo marshmallows. She handed everyone a stick, some graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.
We pierce the marshmallows onto the stick and hover the stick over the fire. "SHIT" I blurt out, my marshmallow fell on the ground "Here, take mine" Gio said from behind me. I turn around "Uh thanks but no thanks, I can just re do it." I stutter
"I insist.."
"Okay.. um fine whatever" I snatch the stick out his hand and start to assemble my s'more.

"Alright Campers!! Time for bed!!" Alice yells over the chatting.

Me and Sophia walk over to our cabin excited for our first night at camp. We get ready for bed and I hop into the shower . "Anyone in here?" Alex yells " Nooooooo" I say sarcastically, " Just wait i'll be done in like.. 20 minutes". "20 minutes!! Your crazy" He laughs. "Well I don't want to be a dirty ass cheater like you..".
It gets quite and hear Alex leave the cabin.

Maybe that was too harsh.

I get out the shower and get dressed and go to the room and me and Soph start decorating our side of the room.
We hang purple fairy lights all over our bunk bed and some vines on the ceiling.

Gio and his friends come back in the cabin
Me and Soph finish decorating and watch Euphoria and the boys are just on there phone.

"Alright Campers! Lights out" Alice says opening our door.

We turn off the lights and go under the coves and continue watching. "The boys are out cold" Sophia says "Okay so?"
she types in something on google": hotsexyguysxxx.com
I gasp "SOPH YOU CANT WATCH THAT!" I shut her computer and slide it across the room.
"Go to bed." I push her off the top bunk and go to bed
"Good night to you too." she says grunting.

What Alex said was still in my head, never knew he was so.. poetic.. and he was right..magical things do happen here..
