I pulled my mask up and hoisted my bag out of the trunk off the car onto my shoulder. "Ok, so you have your passport?"

"Huhum." I glanced at my phone before putting it in my back pocket.

"And your pills?"

"Yes."

"What about your ticket?"

"Mom, I told you a dozen times I print that off once I get inside."

"I know... I'm sorry."

"This was your idea for me to go alone."

"Not one of my finest ideas." Mom smiled before sighing.

"I'll be fine. I gotta go."

"Ok... love you." She said pulling me in for a hug.

"Love you too mom, bye." I shifted the bag on my shoulder once more and gripped the handle of my suitcase tightly.

"Let me know when you land. Be careful."

"Yes, mom." I gave a quick wave and sighed going towards the doors not looking back. The nerves hit once I put my phone in the gray bin along with my shoes. I couldn't have worn something simple? I had to wear my shoes with the metal buckles. I thought to myself, feeling awkward holding up the line. Once I was through and clear the anxiety went away for a short period... just breathe.

Thirty-seven and a half hours later and three layovers I walked off the plane feeling like a zombie. The extra three hundred for first-class wouldn't have been wasted... once I walked down the steps to baggage claim and was able to look out a window the pain in my knee and hip from the flight disappeared. I'm in Tokyo. After what felt like forever my bag finally came, I hauled it off the belt and struggled to turn it on its right side. I felt my cheeks burn thinking all eyes were on me, I looked up to see most people with their eyes on their phone or the person therewith. I let out a breath and fixed my bag going towards the door.

Stepping out of the car in front of the hotel felt like a movie, I looked around at the buildings and was memorized until I heard the driver clean his throat. I looked at him and he held out my suitcase with a smile. "T- Arigatou." I said and he bowed, you could see the smile in his eyes. I walked up to the hotel counter and a beautiful woman with long black hair smiled at me from behind plexiglass. "Hello." I said.

"Do you have a room?" She asked.

"Yes, Brittany Pelley."

"One moment please." She typed away on the computer and the longer it took the quicker my heart rate went. Shouldn't this take a few seconds? "Sorry, spell it for me?"

"B, R, I-" once I was done she nodded and typed some more.

"I'm sorry but there's no name here for you. And we are booked up."

"What..." I mumbled.

"You are going to have to find another room." Fuck.

"I... ok... thank you..." I walked outside and felt like I was going to die. I can imagine this conversation with mom would go well... I turned around trying to see if I could pick out another hotel. Between the panic and the sunshine, I couldn't pick out much. As I turned back around I tripped over my suitcase, I closed my eyes excepting to meet the concrete below but nothing. I opened my eyes to see an arm around my waist. I lifted my eyes half scared and half embarrassed.

"I'm sorry." He said letting me go once I was stable.

"No, no I'm sorry... thank you." I mumbled, he squinted his eyes and I stared at them for a few seconds too long. I know them from somewhere... I'm not one to stare at people, let alone their eyes...
