the hurrying sounds of the multiple different students saying their goodbyes to their parents crowded the platform, overlapping with the train giving its final call to board for departure.
owls were hooting through their cages from the trolleys which were being pushed past the gathering of families and nothing but excitement buzzed through the atmosphere.
in the midst of the chaos around her, a sixteen year old brunette had her traditional witch robes on as she held onto her carry-on bag and turned around to be faced with her mother.
the girl's composure contrasted drastically with others around her. unlike having excitement and a glow of happiness to be returning back to the wizarding school of britain, she had a straight, composed face. though her eyes held a hint of worry.
with a tight-knit smile and nod, the older woman spoke "you focus well on your studies this year nina. i don't want you to fall behind."
"i won't." nina assured, mirroring the woman's expression "goodbye mother."
"i'll see you in december."
nina was definitely not going to be expecting a hug nor a kiss from her mother goodbye. her family wasn't the sort of family that was all cosy and loving. but nina didn't mind because she still knew that everything her mother did was for her. at least that's what she'd always convinced herself of.
and just as she'd presumed; without a hug nor a comforting gaze, the woman turned around and left the brunette girl alone. nina sighed and turned back around, making her way towards the entrance of the train.
she pushed herself past the other kids that were trying to find a compartment, walking down the narrow hallway before soon arriving to the space that her friends had been saving.
"that's an interesting choice of robes to wear for your first day back." a black haired boy with glasses said with a raised eyebrow
"oh shove it, los." nina rolled her eyes, slumping down on the seat beside him
"oh no, really, i think it's a great fashion statement: sixteen year old adds on a hundred years." the boy exclaimed, moving his arms in a displaying motion
a laugh from gina erupted around the brunette but she chose to just let them be. she was used to their humor by now - she didn't find it that funny herself - but she was used to it.
"where's ej?" nina asked, looking around the space that had been absent of the raven-haired boy and a brown-haired girl "and kourt?"
"kourt's off doing perfect duties and you know ej's always the last one on the train." carlos said evidently "but if you sit on your knees and look out the window while squinting your eyes, you can see him talking to his dad."
"that's improper." nina reminded the girl who was about to attempt it
gina snorted a laugh "woah there. summer with the oh-so-favorite mother did you good didn't it?"
