Kayla

📱 Bryan , brother, dear. Have you talked to Jace recently?

not since graduation📱

📱can you contact him and ask to call me?

need your laundry done? 🤣📱

📱 no, I just need to talk to him

we're not that close any longer. Why don't you just call him?📱

📱I tried. I think he has me blocked

😁📱

good for him📱

📱Bryan, please? 🥺

fine. I'm curious now anyway.📱

Kayla wasn't completely sure what she would say when she talked to him. "Hi, I want to try you out as a boyfriend, but you have to change in a hundred ways." The problem was that if she told him to change something, he would. How did she get through to him that he needed to be less obedient, less compliant, less ... Jace?

An hour later she decided trying to reach Jace was a mistake. She missed him, sure, but she also missed the way he made her feel. And that was something she needed to just get over. She wanted to be liked, even loved. She didn't want to be worshipped, even if it did make her feel good. She was twenty-one years old and had never had a real boyfriend.

She needed someone to talk to and had almost worked up the nerve to let Eliz laugh at her when her phone dinged.

No Jace. Straight to voicemail, has ghosted on socials, and no one has seen him.📱

Kayla's hand shook as she read the message. Had something happened to him? Surely, she would have heard. He'd seemed fine at graduation, but what if he had tried to hurt himself? She hadn't hurt him that badly, had she?

No. She was just being dramatic. Jace might be sad, but he'd never been depressed. She just needed to find out what was going on with him.

Jace

Mountain climbing required a great deal more walking than actual climbing. Jace was a glorified Sherpa, carrying the extra gear needed for camping and climbing. The tour group had six members, all of them experienced climbers that made Jace feel out of place and bumbling.

None of them held a candle to Page, however. She was decked out in her usual sports bra and tight cargo shorts, reminding Jace of when she'd first taken him climbing at fourteen. She was a vision, scaling shear rock like a spider, all while giving encouragement and instruction to the group.

It was the instructions she gave at night that really had Jace's attention. The climbing group had only a single woman and kept up a constant competition for the attention of the flirty and beautiful Page. But when they turned in for the night, it was Jace that had got the invitation to her tent.

The first night had been kissing, hours of it. She had gotten really frustrated with him, the harder he tried to give her what she wanted, the worse he seemed to get. He had felt his own frustration, a familiar ache that he knew would become excruciating if he didn't get some relief. He'd certainly been there with Kayla enough times.

It was his frustration that finally let him get it right. He needed more. Not just wanted, but needed. When he let that feeling into his kisses, she laughed, "There you go," and proceeded to make the rest of his night very pleasant. He still got that part all wrong, but she promised to get to that later.

Jace was driving the Suburban to their next base camp while Page sat and talked over the next climb with the clients. "Hey, do you guys mind if we stop off at the Lobos recovery?" She went on to explain that it was a facility working to reintroduce the Mexican gray wolf to their natural habitat. Everyone agreed that it would be a welcome detour.

Jace didn't understand the purpose of the visit at first. The puppies were certainly cute, and the conservation agent seemed to be a friend of Page's, but it wasn't until she led him out to the chain link enclosure with the adults that he understood that this was part of his training.

She was carrying a goat's leg, swinging at the end of her arm like a club. There was a brief scuffle after she tossed it over the fence, the biggest of the animals claiming and flattening out on his belly after dragging it under a nearby tree. He didn't start eating immediately, growling and flashing his long teeth at the other curious wolves. Once it started eating, it tore into the leg, literally wolfing down large bites.

"That piece of meat? That's how we women want to feel," Page said. She had a slightly dazed look on her face. "Claimed, possessed, like you would kill anyone who tried to take us away."

"Possessed? Like we own you?" He was starting to wonder if Page was qualified to teach him about women.

"Exactly. But it's not about how you treat us. It's about how you feel about us. We still need respect, still wanted to be treated like a human being. You do fine at that stuff. Do you know how many idiot women will put up with a guy who mistreats them just so they can feel wanted? Think about how popular shifter stories are. We crave the animal in you. Make us feel it, especially when you're in bed with us."

"What does that have to do with it? Isn't the goal to please you?"

She laughed. "Where you touch us, how you touch us, that's like ten per cent. The rest is making us feel like that piece of meat. Be hungry, desperate. You show us enough of that, you can do anything you want to our bodies and it will be perfect.
