Everyone got complimented one time in their life, "You're so pretty!", "You're so smart" or "I wish I was like you!" but sometimes those compliments are fake to make you think that they love you and that they are nice like a butterfly flying while the sun shines.

Compliments are nice but nicer wen they are addressed to yourself, some poeple will take the compliments and others will decline them maybe because of trust issues or they despises themselves
Some people don't mean those compliments wen they say them, it's common. It's a way to manipulate someone on thinking that you love them and like how they look and their personality, it works, I've complimented many poeple and 80% of the compliments that I said I didn't even mean them but I didn't tell them in a manipulative way it's in a way to make that person feel confident about themselves, in my eyes I see compliments useless I don't take them, maybe because i despise myself, I only take compliments addressed to my art or writing.
In American High school shows/movies the mean girls always compliment the protagonist of the show/movie and after they've got their trust they insult them or make then look bad in other people's eyes but at the end of the show/movie the protagonist wins and turns the tables around, not gona lie I'd like to see a movie where the protagonist doesn't win and is still seen bad in other people's eyes, its like a start of a villain arc.
Compliments are normal in romantic relationships "You look hot" or "You're so pretty, I just want to kiss you" but let's be serious not everyone can be hot or pretty everyday sometimes you look ugly and sometimes you look pretty, poeple can be blinded by love and just see the person they love pretty like a painting put in a museum that has high security.
Compliments in a plantonic relationship in my prospective are funny and amazing "You're pretty, jk" it's like a half compliment that has a joke in it I've always liked those, some friends are mean to their best friend but if other people are mean to their best friend they will start throwing punches it's like a love hate plantonic relationship. But that person can turn mean anytime, maybe they lied wen they said those compliments to you even if they looked real, in this world you can't trust anyone even if you try.
